BCS 4x02: Jimmy cons Neff Copiers for a sales job. And the accept. So why does Jimmy not take the job. Here’s Vince and writer Tom Schnauz on what’s happening inside Jimmy:
Schnauz: “Coming off the previous episode, where Howard admits that it’s his fault, and Chuck killed himself, where we all know that Jimmy’s probably the one to blame after the insurance scam, and he hears Howard take the blame for this. The thing that Jimmy’s responsible for, he just pushes it way down. He’s just got this pit of denial and anger that he’s just suppressing comes seeping out when these two guys who he basically cons them - with his fast talk - into giving him a job. He turns them so quickly, he just looks at them as suckers. He can keep his anger down and it comes pouring out of him.”
Vince: “He’s weirdly self-destructive now. It’s chaotic. It’s anarchic. He doesn’t even know what he’s up to. And the audience is to be forgiven for being mystified by his behavior. Being mystified is the right way to feel. ‘What is going on with Jimmy? What’s he up to? What’s he thinking?’”
Schnauz: “Even in the script, I wrote the Groucho Marx line, ‘I don’t care to belong to any club that will have me as a member.’ That’s what is happening there, as soon as he is accepted. ‘What kind of idiots would hire someone like me? I’m a worthless piece of shit.’” – Better Call Saul Insider Podcast for 4x02
