Most of Gotham's population is descended from Danny and Sam.
Batman was looking at Jason Todd's DNA test, which showed they shared a common ancestor.
This wouldn't be a problem if he'd been the only one to test for Tim Drake, Stephenie Brown, and Barbara Gordon.
The strangest thing about all of this was Richard Grayson, but when he researched it, he found that his grandfather was a Gothamite, so he most likely shared this ancestor.
To further confirm this, he randomly tested the DNA of 100 Gotham residents.
The percentage was 72%.So he began researching and discovered who Gotham's ancestor was: Danny Nightingale and Sam Nightingale, a married couple who lived in the area that would become Gotham in the mid-17th century and had 37 sons and daughters.
Thankfully, he discovered there was no incest here, as most of them married into different families. Because Danny and Sam had a good fortune, their children were able to develop the city. One of their granddaughters married a Gothamite, and Wayne claimed that this was his real name.
He had to double-check. The city would have been called New York if he hadn't donated. With a large donation to be called Gotham
