Spotted in these gifs are eventual TV stars Valerie Harper (with Pippi Longstocking-esque braids, Valerie later played Rhoda Morgenstern on both The Mary Tyler Moore Show and the spin-off series Rhoda), Beth Howland (with pink bows in her ponytails, who later played "dingy" Vera on the sitcom Alice), and Billie Hayes (as Pansy 'Mammy' Yokum in red in the last gif, who later played Witchiepoo on H.R. Pufnstuf). Actresses Julie Newmar, Stella Stevens and Donna Douglas also appeared in Li'l Abner, paving the way for their future careers in film and television. Songs by Gene De Paul and Johnny Mercer from the original Broadway musical were supplemented in the film adaptation with a score by Nelson Riddle and Joseph J. Lilley, which earned the duo a Grammy Award nomination for Best Soundtrack LP.
