I'm listening to Radio Nepal rn and... I understand most of what they're saying! 😳

Nepali feels like a strange mixture of Hindi, Maithili and Bangla to me haha... Of course I can't speak the language at all but seeing how easy it might be for someone like me, with an Indo-Aryan background, maybe I should give it a go (?)

My professor went on a rant about how the term पुरुष was misinterpreted in an attempt to find a proper connotation for it in English, it's supposed to mean "human" or "living" but since the early Western people were very Christianity focused their translated of human ended up being man = male because of the biblical first human being the man ™ thing yada yada, and it ended up shaping Nepali understanding of the word itself, despite the wrong association/context.

Why is it important? My citizenship has पुरुष in it, by mistake, but figuring out that the term is VERY gender neutral and just refers to humans as a whole is like a universe-sent confirmation.

The Nepali language is fun to learn. If you are visiting Nepal, remembering a few Nepali words will help you start a conversation with locals.
