Not sure how accurate this is. I just took a look at the episodes list and by my count Pearl, Amethyst and Garnet have basically the same number of focus episodes. Also the Sardonyx arc was more or less shared between Pearl and Garnet.

I’ve already done the calculations and there are sort of caveats. For one thing, does one count Ruby and Sapphire episodes as Garnet episodes or Ruby and Sapphire episodes? Since Garnet is moreso her own person i’m more inclined to say the latter.

With that being the case Garnet would have slightly less episodes compared to Amethyst and Pearl who have about equal amounts.

The reason why I checked the numbers in the first place some months ago was becuase i was feeling similar things the OP was feeling. So now it’s gotten me wondering if it isn’t a numbers thing but a sort of.... feelings thing. Like, how the show or fandom comes off as. Like, are we being given a different impression compared to what’s there numerically?

At that point we’d have to analyze each episode one by one and sort of breakdown tone, character focus, character moments, which seem more impactful or prominent compared to others, it would be a whole thing that would require so much time and research to fully parse out, energy and time I do not have.

Why would Kanaya kill Vriska? Aren't they friends and teammates? Vriska isn't like Gamzee or Eridan, her only goal is to kill Jack and save everyone. Technically she's still a good guy.

I…. feel like you’re trolling me here, but I will nonetheless assume you’re not.

Vriska’s motivation is definitely not the same as Gamzee’s or Eridan’s, as she is not  determined to join Bec Noir, nor is she trying to fill her omnicidal ancestor’s clown shoes. However, I think it’s giving her too much credit to say her goal is really as selfless as saving everyone. She wants to kill Noir so she can write the final chapter of the fucked-up hero’s tale that she’s cast herself in, and if it means saving the others, well, then that’s a nice bonus. She probably does care quite a bit whether they live or die, but she cares about herself and the narrative she’s constructed more.

As for whether she’s still a good guy… I guess we’ll have to let paradox space be the arbiter of that, but I have the suspicion that if/when she is finally killed, she won’t come back. Like Gamzee and Eridan, Vriska murdered a teammate who stood no chance against her, and for no other reason than she was angry and tired of him. And yes, it’s true that she showed remorse, but remorse is not enough to absolve someone of their crimes. If that were true, our jails would be a hell of a lot less populated.

But I digress. When I said “Why doesn’t she curb stomp Vriska, while she’s at it?”, it would be disingenuous to say that my personal feelings didn’t enter into it at all, but what I meant was, why doesn’t KANAYA, with her knowledge of the situation, curb stomp Vriska? She got rid of Gamzee, got rid of Eridan, but as far as threats go, god tier Vriska has the potential to be the most dangerous. However, I answered my own question upon thinking about it more: maybe Kanaya has no idea what Vriska did to Tavros. After all, she was killed chronologically before Tavros was, and she may not have had time to come across his corpse and piece together what happened before Gamzee absconded with his body and started painting in his blood.

I partially agree with what you're saying about responsibility, but if Vriska see's John randomly fall asleep at that point, how can she not think that she must be responsible? It's not like anyone else can do that (I think). Regardless of her other reasons, don't you agree that if she knew that then she kind of had to do it?

Vriska’s not talking about seeing John fall asleep [as her reasoning for having put him to sleep], though. She’s talking about having seen Bec Noir already in her session. That’s why I think it was a ‘crime’ of opportunity: she was watching John, and realized that if he prototyped the doll, the Bec Noir she witnessed ruining the troll session would never come to be. That’s when and why she decided to put him to sleep.

Edit 2: Although, the way she talks about it, it could have been more premeditated than that, in which case, she might have had the idea to set up Bec Noir’s existence, and then gone back through the timeline to see when John fell asleep, and then made sure it happened. Kind of the same as Bill and Ted planning to go back in time to plant helpful items for themselves. The fact that the items then show up is proof that in the future, they will indeed go back in time and plant those items.

…Fuckin’ time travel causality, man. This is confusing as fuck. @_@

As I recall, there is a reason, its just brought up in season 2. Just keep at it, see how it holds up at the end.

Ok cool. Yeah, I can see what you're saying. I wish I could tell you that friendship stops being a thing, but uh.... I don't believe it cures crazy anymore though. It didn't bother me much in this case because season 1 was basically people believing friendship could stop their friends from going nuts only to get brutally murdered by those friends. Over and over up until that final episode where it kinda works.

Honestly though, that just strikes me as really chaotic writing.

If you go out of your way to show that something doesn’t work, but then it suddenly does work, only to fail every subsequent time, it makes it hard to decipher any sort of logical development arc into it.

It gives me the feeling like they never really sat down and wrote down the direction of their story and just sorta made it up as they went along.

Which is a thing that can work out really well sometimes, as which Evangelion, or eventually collapse once the author can no longer keep up with their own creation, as with Homestuck.

Writing may be pretty hard, but a consistent narrative thread is pretty important for a work to stay entertaining, is how I always saw it.

Uh, you know theres a second season right? Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni Kai. Thats where they resolve things. The series isn't over yet. They haven't solved anything yet, so friendship hasn't solved all their problems. It stopped Rena once, big deal.

Oh dear, I get the feeling that this is only going to get worse. Like every other anime I’ve watched, really.

Also, my problems with their alleged “friendship” aren’t merely about it being the cure for all of their problems, given how it’s also tied to them all becoming accessories to murder, the belief that it’s an adequate replacement for good therapy and how they’re not even consistent about their belief in friendship.

Also, just this one time is already enough to annoy me a lot.

It’s just kind of a thing I have against Care Bear style resolutions.

I don’t count suicide as murder, though.

Well, Anime Makoto would probably find a way to complain about the stains she’d leave on the pavement. So inconsiderate.

He’d probably spend most of his time rejecting any sort of responsibility for the situation and sexing up Kotonoha in the meantime.

Really, his VN counterpart was much better in that regard. He could be sympathetic even when he was in the process of getting shanked.

It was actually pretty dramatic.
