Last night’s “Nightclub at the Museum” burlesque show was a lot of fun! There was
A singing of the Preamble to the U.S. Constitution
A Caveman dancing to Turn Down for What and Wiggle (and had a slight wardrobe malfunction, showing us much more than intended)
A song by/about Catherine Howard, Henry VIII’s 5th wife, with two backup vocalists. At the end she was “decapitated”
What Would Abe Lincoln Say Today? He’d recite the “'I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take this anymore!” rant from the film Network, then break out into dancing to [song]; all he removed was his hat & jacket
Lady!Genghis Khan removing clothing while doing the Genghis Conga (with all the other performers and a few audience members) to Hot, Hot, Hot, which led to the intermission
A Jurassic Park-themed number (to Weird Al’s Jurassic Park): first half of the song the girl was dressed as Dr. Ian Malcolm, even did the 'drop of water on a girl’s hand/Chaos Theory’ trick with a girl in the audience, then stripped down to reveal her T-Rex outfit, tearing apart a stuffed goat and the head off a Barbie which spread red glitter everywhere and then rarr-ing triumphantly (the same number as from last year’s Weird Al tribute show, but no less amazing)
Security Guard dancing to [song], stripping down and grinding on a chair in front of a few audience members (and on the ticket lady) as he did, then at the end his “boss” -- WarBunny, the actual security guy for the show -- showing up on stage in socks & boxers (and bunny ears) telling him to get back to work
The True History of Canada (Thomas Jefferson tried to invade, but the Indigenous Peoples summoned Wendigo to defeat Jefferson’s invading forces, and freed slaves fused with the Northern Lights to smite minstrel shows. Then the French showed up.)
Lizzie Borden, removing clothes and then giving a balloon-man 40 (or so) whacks with an axe (which had a few needles taped to the edge to change it from slashing damage to piercing, to bypass the balloons damage reduction)
Marie Antoinette, teasing select audience members by pretending to offer them the articles of clothing she’d removed, then jerking them away
Their next show’s in August. The theme: SCIENCE!
Woo-hoo, tomorrow I get to
hang out with a friend (not seen since last May),
have tasty Indian buffet noms (not had Indian food since mid-April, and been craving it all month), and
attend Nerd-Vana’s museum/history-themed burlesque show at Legend’s Nightclub (I’ve not been out to a burlesque show since... February? December? Too long.)
!!!
Other fun things at Nerd-Vana’s Merry Freakin’ FILK-smas show last night:
Nerdy Christmas Carols (Rotting Around the Christmas Tree, Santa Dalek [Santa Baby], Tentacles [Jingle Bells], O Cthulhu [O Tannenbaum], Holodeck The Halls).
Dramatic readings/re-enactments of various Christmas songs, after having been run through Google Translate a few times.
A painful(ly funny) rendition of The Nutcracker Suite that involved a guy breaking wooden boards with his crotch.
A dramatic reading of 'Twas The Night Before Christmas in the voices of Ron Swanson, George Takei, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Christopher Walken, and one or two others I'm forgetting.
And I was given a free Doctor Who-themed condom by Mikey Mason b/c I wore a KISS t-shirt (it had the cover of their Destroyer album on it, which was not only the first KISS album he'd bought but also the first album he'd ever bought)!

Should be a great show!
A lot of Raleigh’s burlesque performers, emcees, and SCA folks are getting pinged by Facebook’s “you must use your real legal name” bullcrap. >:(
AHHHHHHH Just bought my tickets to Edmonton Expo, I AM SO EXCITED I bought a photo op with J August Richards and Amy Acker!!!!!! I'm so excited I can't breathe!!! I'm going on the Sunday only (I have a linguistics conference on Saturday) I'm also super stoked to walk down artists alley and hopefully find some cool posters/prints to buy as well! Anyone else planning on attending??
Tonight's Robot vs Pirate vs Ninja burlesque show was amazing! Several pirates in the audience, too, though no robots (well, maybe there were androids/skinjobs) and no ninja (though if they were there, how would we know?!).
The emcee of course did his usual readings form Fifty Shades of Grey in an assortment of voices. For pirates, he started as Captain Jack Sparrow, then switched to Sean Connery (due to his role in The Hunt for Red October), and ended on William Shatner (due to Kirk's actions in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, where they stole the Klingon which they renamed the HMS Bounty in Star Trek IV: The voyage Home). For a robot voice he did Marvin the Paranoid Android from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (i.e., Alan Rickman); someone in the audience suggested he do Bender but I'm not sure he heard. For a ninja voice, none came to mind, so instead he went with "the only Asian-American I do know," George Takei. I then suggested he do American Ninja, Chris Farley, which got some good laughs, but after a moment's thought he concluded Farley's only real "voice" was the Guy Who Lived In A Van Down By The River.
The performances were great, though I'd say the stand-out was one girl's number as the Holographic Fiance of Archer's Dr. Krieger, complete with long green balloon "hentai tentacles" (which she popped to spread glitter everywhere). There were a few other robots, and pirates, and two ninjas, as well as a male pirate telling jokes, and another male pirate doing some magic tricks.
