My daughter doesn’t really care to go to the movies, largely due to her autism. Her auditory processing is such that the dialogue can be difficult to follow (although there are closed captioning devices now that might help with that), and it’s more difficult to get away from overwhelming stimuli when you’re in a dark theater than when you’re on the couch at home. She usually prefers to wait until something is out on DVD, which is fine with me. The point is to enjoy yourself, and whatever works for her is what we’ll do.
So when she came to me and surprised me by saying she wanted to go see Force Awakens in the theater, HELL YES we will be going. I took the day off tomorrow so we can hit an earlier show which hopefully won’t be as crowded. And if she gets overwhelmed and wants to leave partway through, that’s fine, because I’ve already seen it once. We’d leave anyway, but it certainly makes it easier for me.
Nerd mom and nerd daughter, bonding over Star Wars. I’m living the dream.
