The mask/ horns are definitely the most different I think from what I’ve seen the fandom usually goes for so far for his design?

I was trying to still have it be reminiscent of his original roe mask, and since this mask has ‘countless horns’ I thought that by having the horns not necessarily just be on top, but to try layering the antlers to give the effect of wood bark dimensionality. I think that look also lends itself more to the analogy that they were like ‘limbs of a tree branching out’ description and keeps well with the original roe deer mask being made out of wood. I tried to also make the general shape of it similar to a deer skull.

Since I was already going deep into the wood route for the mask, I thought incorporating his yellow lantern-like eyes into the spaces where trees may naturally knot together into those shapes (and then add more behind the void of the hood for extra spook). Who doesn’t love a creature with too many eyes?

I wanted the cluster of horn ribs to also be very antler like, keeping with theme. I added some scale texture in the black of his body behind them since the things described to have burst from his ribs in the transformation was SCALES, horns, hooves and spikes. Not sure where the scales part came from? But I wanted to incorporate it since the addition of it in the original description felt odd considering the other elements.

I was trying to to make the general body ‘not quite human’… it’s trying to be, but can’t quite be put into place. Not quite as obviously grotesque as the descriptions in gsgw, but I tried to conveying it with uneven limbs and the belt placements to be more… lumpy?

I also lengthened the arms and the hands to a point where I thought it may not be recognized at first glance as off, but also clearly disproportionate and unnatural to the body with more attention. Hands and fingers that are overly long like that have always felt like a good ‘beyond human’ trait to me, it’s a complicated body part and for something that isn’t human it would be easy to make ‘wrong’.

I really like sci-fi stories where people have to go off and terraform a planet, or figure out how to rebuild civilization after some disaster, or ideally both. "The last ark-ship leaving Earth right before it becomes uninhabitable" sort of deal. But lately I've been coming around to this same idea, that it will always be more practical to try to save Earth than to try to start over elsewhere.

I was reading one story where the apocalypse was impossibly-rising oceans. Like, water is appearing from *waves hand* the Earth's crust or something, and literally all dry surface land on Earth is going to become underwater in X years. Part of the story was about a giant research project to invent FTL to send a few hundred humans to a nearby star which might have a habitable planet. You know what they were hoping to find? A planet with liquid water. Their plan was to descend from their starship and restart civilization using just the tools they brought with them, on a world with no life and no breathable air and the wrong gravity and the wrong temperate and the wrong sunlight and the wrong day-night cycle, just because it had liquid water. You know where else has liquid water? The flooded Earth you just abandoned. Instead of researching starship technology, you could have spent that time loading up all the same civilization-restarter tools into boats.

And this is really true of any futuristic apocalypse scenario. If you can terraform Mars to have a thick oxygen atmosphere, why not just do that to Earth? Even if you smash an ice comet into Earth and destroy basically everything, Earth will still be more habitable than Mars! It'll still have roughly the right atmospheric pressure, and magnetic field, and heat balance, and it'll still have whatever life the comet didn't kill... Same with a starshade to cool Venus. Same with excavating asteroids into city-stations. Same with abandoning Sol System entirely and heading to another star. If an ark-ship arrived in a new star system and found Earth-but-choked-by-climate-change, the crew would be ecstatic. They would never have thought to get that lucky. So why bother with the trip? Just stay and fix the damn Earth.

Hello, my good peeps! Sometime last night (8/9/26) we hit over 9 Million views on The Webcomic Library database.

We actually hit 8 million less than 3 weeks ago and now we are here. I can't begin to tell yall how much it means to me that folks are still not only finding this project but interacting with and finding new comics to support.

For the past bit I've been trying to envision what I wanna expand on this project next and how to accomplish it. The past couple of years have just been me trying to maintain things after my medical downturn in 2023, but I'm starting to look more towards the future again. It's both nerve wracking and exciting!

With that in mind I have a little challenge that I hope yall will help me out with: The Webcomic Library's 10 year anniversary in on November 26th of this year. I'd really love to hit 10 million views on the database by then. If you want to explore more stories, publishers, genres, or anything else there's likely something here for you to find. So far we've documented over 2,500 comics and have over 300 tags to help you find what you're looking for.

Been thinking about how much of gotham is *actually* protected by batman. Cuz Bruce loves to banish people from gotham or claim its all his city or whatever

But Sparrow protects the marina, Simon handles the Village, Whistle and The Hound are the only heroes Down River, Selina has set up shop in Alleytown, Bruce actively avoids suburbs, and he's banned from the Rookery.

I have genuinely no clue if Holly is still around but from what little ive read her and Wildcat are set in east end

Is monster town still a thing? If it is its not being brought up. Croc and Lonnie were set in there for a bit, but Lonnie's undergone a soft reboot it seems? And Waylon is set in Slaughter Swamp with Grundy now I'm pretty sure

Gotham's catacombs seem to have been taken over by Michael Lane

Duke handles the daytime so whatever Bruce does protect is only "his" for as long as night lasts

And lastly Maps and the Detectives Club handle Gotham Academy and the surrounding forest
