Star Trek: The Next Generation 4x13 "Devil's Due"

Marta DuBois.

It plays like a Q episode without Q. A story where Picard uses a courtroom to debate whether the all-powerful character is really what they purport to be. As someone who isn’t always a big fan of the actual Q episodes, I must say that I much prefer this logical approach to the concept. It’s also a TNG episode that feels like it could have worked on TOS. It’s another example of the show being critical of religion and deitites, and instead giving societies praise for their own advances over time. It’s a smart idea. Although this is a Picard episode form star to finish, it is Geordi who saves the day. He locates the villain’s source of power and turns things around. Data gets some funny lines when he is the judge, and he is well utilised in the script. (The teaser features him as Scrooge.) DuBois is fabulous in the main role. Shame they never brought her back.

Picard in Pastels final scan

So many issues with it, but hey - it kinda looks like him, and it reads as a human being so I will take the win!

As you can probably can tell with my recent flapping around between pencil, pastel, a bit of watercolour and more recently a bit of acrylic - I am still very much trying to find my place as an artist. It's a constant journey and it doesn't help that I flip flop between my love of different mediums!
