Concerning how you are already growing tired of the “God must die”, might I suggest we might go the way of Avatar The Last Airbender instead? I can’t remember if you know anything about it or not, Laura. Essentially, Avatar Aang is a child and doesn’t want to KILL the evil Fire Lord, but he does want to STOP him. So he learns the ultimate technique. He learns to take away the Fire Lord’s bending, his power, instead. Effectively neutralizing his powers. That’s how he is “defeated”.

YES. I mean, I haven’t seen Avatar, but that... sounds like what I think could happen.

I mean, I don’t think Chuck’s lying when he says that if he dies, creation dies with him. But specifically TFW, they are his “avatars” in the narrative, you know? He does identify with them, and they are “his guys.” For so long, they were the prophesied vessels of the apocalypse, but they transcended that, they tore up that script and Chuck has just kept giving them new scripts. And unless the show is actually going for the Blaze of Glory ending-- especially considering the ultimate weapon Chuck invented in 14.20 that kills the shooter as well as the victim-- I don’t think they actually can kill him.

And I don’t see why they’d want to.

Metaphorically speaking.

He’s not so much the Ultimate Author, as he is living out both sides of creation, as creator of these avatars of his story. It’s the last duality in the entire series, and it superduper weirds me out on a metaphysical level to think Supernatural would throw out 14 years of the perfect setup to just burn it all down in the end rather than actually allowing all the characters (TFW and Chuck) to finally achieve full awareness of self and finally close the narrative spiral.

Killing God would just... throw it all out the window. You can’t do that without doing the same to his avatars... I mean the Duality Engine Gun, the Equalizer, did just that... It doesn’t fire bullets but “a wave of multidimensional energy using a balanced quantum link between the target and the shooter,” causing whatever happens to the target to also happen to the shooter. It’s clear Dabb is fully aware of the ramifications of this metaphor...

I mean, shows do that, and annihilate their own story, but I hope with all my being that Dabb is actually a better storyteller. And he’s proved me right so far.

I’m just going all rambly at this point. But everything TFW seems to have left on the table to understand about themselves (that’s been mirrored through Jack all season, and I don’t doubt he’ll be resurrected in 15.01 because I’m not an idiot :P), seems to be directly tied to everything Chuck has pushed them into... All the father stuff we had this season, the letting go of past baggage, all the growth they’ve all struggled for and continue to struggle with, Cas finding happiness, Sam finding his leadership role, Dean coming to terms with letting go his guilt and responsibility for everyone else... that’s all got to be resolved, and I don’t think it ever will be if they can’t resolve it with the original author, you know?

Because Chuck isn’t just “Chuck, face of God in the Story.” He’s the original creator of Supernatural’s self-insert character. He’s Kripke’s original concept for the series (symbolically). And on a metaphorical level, I honestly don’t think Dabb wants to kill that. He wants to RESOLVE the story that’s been told since the pilot episode. He wants to make PEACE with it. For all of us.

You don’t make peace with it by murdering it.

I mean, yeah, technically you could... but I don’t think that’s ever been the true message of the show. Especially not after 14.20. (and not after s11, either, but it’s become incredibly obvious now).

XD
