New Last Photo of Princess Elisabeth of Hesse

Discovered in the GARF Archives in Russia by Ilya (aka LastRomanovs on Flickr and Sledstvie on Instagram), this photo was taken in mid November 1903 when the Hessian Royal Family and the Russian Imperial Family were visiting the Skiernewice Hunting Lodge in Bialowieza Poland.

This trip was where the young cousin of the imperial family, Princess Elisabeth of Hesse and By Rhine, tragically died of typhoid fever. Any photos from this trip are extremely rare, only one other photo also from Ilya’s album has ever been shared to the public.

Also featured in this photo is a young Grand Duchess Tatiana Nikolaevna of Russia and (I think) Empress Alexandra Feodorovna of Russia. Also I think I can recognize Ella’s nanny Lillian Wilson in the background of this photo but I’m not 100% sure. He is another closeup. The woman standing who I think is Alexandra could also be OTMA’s nanny Margaretta Eagar.
