8-12-20 Studio Work

Today I worked more on Newprint. I wanted to make prints related to my project so I decided to press words that remind me of the term “Butterflies in your Stomach”.

For ‘Flutters’, I pressed my letters multiple times to make the letters look blurry and create the illusion of shaking. For ‘Butterfly’, I wanted it to look as if the word ‘Fly’ was flying away. I struggled with trying to get the ink to look vibrant, in the future I’ll apply more ink on the letters before I press them.

I really enjoy working with print so I’m hoping to incorporate that into my work next semester.

Ru Xu (@ruemxu) is the creator of the NewsPrints graphic novel series, as well as the time-travel webcomic Saint for Rent (@saint-for-rent). A digital artist, Ru mainly works in Clip Studio and Photoshop. Her non-storytelling-related personal interests include historical fiction, coffee-flavored ice cream, and fat birds.
