Next to normal is what I thought Dear Evan Hansen would be.
Do you guys think that Gabe's sweatpants in the musical are so small because he's outgrowing who he was at his core? From a dream, to a baby, to a ghost, to grief itself. Not just to Diana, but for her whole family. Gabe is so much bigger than whatever he was meant to be. Thats why his pants dont reach his ankles.
A thought I have whenever watching the next to normal proshot is the red backpacks. Gabe has a garishly bright red backpack, while Natalie has a darker, wine red one. And whenever I see them, it makes me think. Because though Natalie's backpack is not as vibrant, it has lived. It isn't spotless, maybe it's stained, but it's seen books and pencils and everything else. It's faded and worn, but that's what living is. Compared to gabes bright one, still creased from however it was stored at the factory, not a mark on it. It's perfect, but unused. It hasn't seen life.
missing next to normal like a motherfucker right now
something about the fact that after Vows, when Diana sees Gabe again she calls out for Natalie, not Dan. That's probably the first time she had ever done that, the first time Natalie had ever had her mother reach out to her
gabe is so kind awww
Ngl listening to next to normal while studying always makes me surprisingly productive.
genuinely cannot stop rewatching next to normal. everything about it just means so much sigh.
