loved the new chapter really interesting how donnie managed to kinda ignore all hallucinations until leo came maybe some underlying guilt he never properly addressed
Thank you for sending this question my way! The truth is, as I wrote him, Donnie has underlying guilt with everyone he hallucinated. In order for them to be a part of it the feelings have to be there at least a little. However, he’s always been able to logic out what he did and how he should feel about it which is why he could brush the others off.
Leo is a different case simply because Donnie was closer to losing him more than anyone else.
Yes, they lost Raph for a good while, but Leo managed to help get him back. Raph was mind controlled and kraanged, but he was still there. Able to be brought in a way.
There was a solid few moments where it was fully believed that Leo was not only trapped somewhere they could not get to, but he very well might be dead or killed already. Donnie can no longer fully logic through things because his emotions over it get in the way. If he had said something differently, if he hadn’t joked so much, could he have a done something?
Long story short, Leo is Donnie’s weakness.
The fungus brought out the big guns when nothing else was working.
I will also tag @phoebepheebsphibs in case she wants to see the thought process
@boots-with-the-fur-club & @phoebepheebsphibs I randomly got hit with inspiration at school 😊 I wanted to put the tears thing but I didn’t want to ruin the whole “I’m a sassy, over dramatic theater kid being possessed by a giant evil mushroom” vibe

(Oh also I never mentioned this but it’s a small fun fact — so if you look at Raph’s mask tails you’ll see one has three beads and the other has four. The four beads are for him and his brothers, the other three are for Splinter, April, and Casey Jones Jr.)
