Harvey gave a heartfelt, emotional speech accepting his NHMC Impact Award for Outstanding Performance in a Series:
I just can't help but think of my younger self in this moment. The very root of my being is a queer, chubby Latino who wanted nothing more than to perform [...] and he was told he was too big, too poor, too loud, that his dream was simply unattainable. And I stand here fresh off six seasons of a critically acclaimed comedy series. Not only for little Harvey but for the younger generations of queer POCs that will follow behind, knowing that we've broken down the doors for them. That we are continuously fighting for them and making the entertainment industry a more inclusive space for everyone and anyone. That their dreams are not just dreams, that they are just as worthy of this career. […] So when someone comes out to you, they’re not ‘coming out’ - they know who they are. They’re letting you in, to their home, to their space. And what you do with that information, what you do in that space, is so crucial. So remember that, the next time someone lets you in. And as actors, we do the same. We let people into our world, hopefully allowing them to feel represented and seen. If my character on this show makes a little queer POC child somewhere feel like it's going to be okay, then it's all worth it. To be able to represent my community on television and embody a strong, fearless Latino character has been an absolute honor. Mil gracias, good night.
