Here’s the thing about colonizers: they love a quote unquote uninhabited island.

Here’s the thing about islands: they are never uninhabited for the whole of their existence. There is no ‘pure, unspoiled’ wilderness.

At some point, someone lived there. They may have then decided it was a fuckhole and left (see the original Jamestown site for an example of this) or been driven off by other people (see uh, most of the United States for this).

My point is, there’s generally a very good reason an uninhabited island is uninhabited at the time a boat of forty three idiot white settlers show up.

Someone lived on Widow’s Bay before Richard Warren showed up, mark my words. And I sincerely doubt that someone ceded it to him happily or without a heavy price to either side of the transaction. Also, consider just WHY they call it Widow’s Bay, and that painting in the inn. Think long and hard, and the horror will grow strong.
