Dancing Through Life - The Shoulder Joint
What you do in your everyday life using Nia movement as medicine, living the Nia philosophy: “Through movement we find health”.
Throughout the day sustain awareness of the sensation of a healthy shoulder joint.
Imagine. As you walk, imagine your upper arm bones hanging free and down.
Sense. When dancing or walking, sense the ball of the shoulder joint as a planet freely floating and suspended in space, bound by nothing, and free to be.
Vibrate. Every hour get up and shake, vibrate, shimmy your shoulders to keep them from tension.
Release. When working at a computer keep your lower jaw relaxed, slightly open to reduce tension in the shoulders, and stop every fifteen minutes, pushing back from your desk. Turn your palms up, close your eyes and sit for 30 seconds, breathing deeply to help balance the repetitive use of the downward facing dog palms.
Wave. Every hour, wave and and shake your hands to release tension in the shoulder joints, hands and arm muscles.
Turn. Change the direction of your palms, using palms up when you reach up, and palms down when you reach down, thereby protecting the design of the shoulder joint to get maximum productivity and power from this joint.
Fly. As you walk, imagine large white wings extending from your shoulder blades, providing the sensation of relaxation in your shoulder.
