A Brief Introduction to TMJ Syndrome
For over a decade, Dr. Nicholas “Nick” Rauber has worked as a dentist at Baton Rouge, Louisiana’s Aesthetic Dentistry Group. In this position he provides a wide variety of dental services, including TMJ treatments. Nick Rauber, DDS, is also the founder of Swollfest, a charitable fishing tournament that has generated more than $1.2 million in philanthropic giving. Temporomandibular joint syndrome (TMJ) is a condition characterized by pain and discomfort that begins in the jaw and radiates throughout the face and neck. Additional symptoms of the disorder include persistent earaches and headaches, locking of the jaw joint, a clicking or popping noise when talking or eating, and general stiffness or soreness. In less severe cases, TMJ can be treated with in-home remedies, such as ice packs and over-the-counter medication. However, more severe instances of the disorder demand more advanced intervention, which may range from prescription drugs to surgery. Fortunately, most cases do not require such actions. Individuals who suspect they may be suffering from TMJ should consult with a trusted dental professional.
