"Jimmy" starts off with Virgil having a flashback to Richie being hurt when at a session with the psychologist Dr. Franklin due to recent events that he explains to her as the episode's framing device.

Virgil and Richie end up interacting with the titular Jimmy, who gets regularly bullied by Nick Connor and his friends. To Dr. Franklin, Virgil vents a bit about how a teacher pays attention to latecomers (like him due to an encounter with Carmen Dillo[presumably not saying why he was late to Dr. Franklin]) but she was oblivious to the bullying, acknowledging that he didn't bring it to her attention either.

Virgil ends up bringing Jimmy an unused mouse of Sharon's to replace the one the bullies broke.

Jimmy's mom is pleased that he has friends over, although she also 'asks' him to not scare them away, which seems to frame the situation as due to something lacking in Jimmy. On the one hand, his mother framing it as his 'fault' that he doesn't have friends cannot be helping Jimmy's mental health. On the other, this is sadly foreshadowing.

At first, things go well, with Jimmy talking about his nerdy interests. Then he brings up how he can access his dad's gun, which greatly upsets Virgil as his mom died due to gun violence. While Virgil's reaction is particularly acute, I do think a first visit is way too soon to loop classmates/friends into illicitly seeing/using a parent's belonging, regardless of what it is, but particularly when it's something as dangerous as a firearm.

He storms off, getting Richie to go with him.

In Dr. Franklin's office, Virgil wonders if he could have handled the situation better, thinking he was a "chicken" about it, but the psychologist reassures him that leaving was the smart choice given the dangers of guns.

Virgil and Richie did continue to interact with Jimmy after his offscreen apology, and next Saturday's post will go into about the Fright Fest situation.

The middle part of "Jimmy" initially comes off as a 'breather' section as Frieda takes point in organizing Dakota's Fright Fest at the community center, which presumably means this episode is taking place over the course of October. I feel like if this show had been more serialized, the Jimmy subplot would have slowly built up over the course of several episodes until matters hit a breaking point. I might be influenced by how there is a montage of the students setting up for Fright Fest, including Jimmy developing a crush on Frieda.

When Nick tries to put the moves on Frieda, he tries to find out she likes that 'loser' Jimmy, with Frieda dismissing the notion, unaware that Jimmy had heard her. Nick takes the eavesdropping weirdly personally, chasing after Jimmy, with him and his two friends stuffing Jimmy into a locker.

Frieda, Virgil, and Richie show up to get Jimmy out of there.

This shot emphasizes how Jimmy feels like there's a spotlight on him and how he feels looked down on. Humiliated, he runs off crying.

It's interesting, how going by these two screencaps Nick seems to have realized he crossed a line but doesn't want to verbally admit it.

To Dr. Franklin, Virgil explains that Jimmy didn't attend Fright Fest nor showed up at school. His comment about things got even worse is meant for viewers on a Doylist level, while on a Watsonian one it probably was Virgil trying to explain/justify why he didn't loop in any adults- that he thought nothing worse could happen than that.

A brief scene establishes that Frieda wants to apologize to Jimmy and thinks Nick should as well, somehow Nick takes this to mean she's not upset at him even though it means that Frieda knows she wasn't the victim in the situation. It also means that Nick has repressed any inclination he had had from the aftermath about having done anything to apologize for.
