In 1943, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, one George Webster, just 14, attacked his mother, two siblings and a family friend with a baseball bat. His mother, Wilhelmina Dawson, did not survive. Webster had no known motive and was declared unfit to stand trial.

This tragedy might be seldom mentioned today were it not that, according to none other than Nick Mancuso, who voiced the mysterious "Billy" in Black Christmas (1974), key factors in the pioneering slasher film were adapted by Roy Moore from the Webster attacks. While slasher films may be said to date back to the early 1960's, and arguably even the 1940's, Black Christmas set the morbid movie standard for a trend of fifty years.

While also influenced by the unsourced urban legend of a babysitter receiving telephone calls from inside the house, that legend more directly determined the plot of When a Stranger Calls (1979).

Despite subsequent cinematic attempts to unmask or explain Billy from the original seventies horror film, George Webster is as close as we will ever get to unmasking the killer, and for added dark irony, although I can find a photograph of Dawson, I can find no images of Webster himself:
