Thoughts on RPS Season 2 based on episode titles and descriptions
Now that the season 2 episodes have been revealed, I thought it might be fun to read all of the titles and descriptions and give sort-of my first impressions on how I think this season is gonna go. Starting with...
"Franz Roll and the Lost Rainbow Hot Pants of Atraxes the Apple Bottomed": Rock quests for an ancient artifact in order to prove he is worthy of working with his modeling role model, Franz Roll. Paper and Scissors compete to be more supportive of Rock in the hopes that one of them will head his entourage when he's famous.
First of all, geez that's a mouthful of a title. But it's cool that they're finally bringing Franz Roll in. For those who don't know, Franz Roll was in the series bible, but he hasn't been introduced into the show until now. I'm curious if that means we're going to see other characters that have only shown up in the series bible, such as Cash Cow (though I'm pretty sure she was worked into Chad Brockchad; I could be wrong though).
"Paper and Pencil Tell a Joke": After getting their first-ever laugh at a party, Paper and Pencil become obsessed with recapturing the feeling and decide to become stand-up comedians.
This one looks like it has the potential to be a really fun, funny episode. Not a big fan of the title though.
"Scissors' Orchestra": Scissors hires a full orchestra to follow him everywhere.
So, for those who have read the entirety of the series bible, this was one of the episodes listed and it was described in great detail, to the point the ending is outright spoiled. Now, this won't be the first time I've had an episode spoiled before it aired (I still haven't forgiven Nickelodeon for releasing that one clip of "Trash" that spoiled "Helping with the Groceries" before either episode was released in the US), but it is the first time I'll be going into an episode with low expectations due to a spoiler. I won't say anything here, but just know that the description makes the episode's ending seem very depressing. Maybe it'll be different, but I'm not very hopeful.
"Paper Attends an Elite Institution": Believing he's been accepted to a prestigious college, Paper is horrified to learn he's been placed in a third grade class for child prodigies.
Again, very bad title. But I love the scenario of Paper being surrounded by kids who are smarter than him. We've all seen the "you are a child" meme, after all.
"The New Landlord": Fed up with their terrible living conditions, the trio successfully gets Lou to quit his landlord duties, but they soon regret it.
I wouldn't mind this episode's concept, except that it was kinda already done before in "The Arctic." Still, it could be good.
"Rock's First Day of Work": Rock starts his dream job as an assistant to his celebrity idol, but quickly learns that the glamorous life of a supermodel's assistant is exhausting.
I'm mildly interested in this one.
"Shoot": The trio's overly competitive old friend returns.
Oh god, it's that "George of the Jungle" episode all over again.
"The Origami Robot": When Scissors swallows a pinecone, Pencil sends a tiny origami robot into his stomach to break it down, but the plan goes awry when the robot gains sentience.
0_0 Yeah, I know. This show is weird.
"Scissors Sees an Inspirational Sports Movie": After watching an inspirational sports movie, Scissors becomes convinced he's destined to be a college football star.
And here we have what might just be the absolute worst episode title of the season. Really? You couldn't have called it "Scissors Plays Football" or "Scissors Goes to College"? Why do you need all these unnecessary words? Geez, at least Ed, Edd, n Eddy's titles were kind of clever...
"The Altruistic-Off": Annoyed that the Rat Bros are getting praise for tutoring kids, the trio decides to one-up them by competing to see who can be the most charitable.
Hopefully, this one will be better than "The Prank War."
"The Album": After a seemingly great date with a pop star, Scissors' life is turned upside down when she releases a hit breakup album all about him, making him the most hated person on the planet.
I can already tell I'm going to hate this pop star...what? No, I'm not jealous!
"The Bedtime-Off": When Rock can't sleep, Paper and Scissors are forced to tell him a bedtime story.
Another episode with "off" in the title? Whatever. Still better than "Scissors Sees an Inspirational Sports Movie." Anyway, I can totally see Paper and Scissors reading Rock a bedtime story, it's so in-character.
"Paper Takes the Phones": To get Rock and Scissors to connect with him, Paper takes away their phones for the day, only to realize he's cut them off from urgent news about a zombie apocalypse.
This sounds like another one of those "Paper has a legitimate point and gets punished for it" episodes. But zombie apocalypses are always fun to watch, so that's a plus.
"Scissors is a Good Boy": Rock's plan to befriend his idol, Franz, goes awry when Franz visits and instead becomes obsessed with Scissors, whom he mistakes for a dog.
...Okay, this one just sounds like someone snuck their secret fetish into the plot. Like, how does Scissors look like a dog at all? Then again, we've seen "Dog Scissors" before...
"Paper's Family Get-Together": Dreading the annual family get-together where his high-achieving relatives share their accomplishments, Paper fakes his own kidnapping.
Now this one I'm looking forward to. I've been interested to see more of the main characters' family. Maybe this is the episode where we'll get introduced to Toilet Paper, Paper's stand-up comedian sister (also mentioned in the series bible)
"Moonami 12": When high snack prices threaten the trio's tradition of seeing the new Moonami movie on opening day, they embark on an action-packed mission to get their own candy before the movie starts.
How did I not figure out that the "tsunami of cows" they were referring to was referencing the movie poster in the apartment?
"Spider Court": The trio is put on trial in a court run entirely by spiders and must prove their innocence after being accused of trying to squish one of their citizens.
I think this one will be good, even if its plot is slightly similar to "Birthday Police."
"Car Wash Nationals": Paper and Scissors agree to cover a shift for a sick Rock at the robot car wash, only to discover they must compete in a high-stakes dance competition.
Not much to say about this one, but it is cool that we get to see the reformed robots again.
"Scissors the Supervillain": Convinced his calling is to be a supervillain, Scissors soon discovers that being evil involves a lot more boring, administrative work than he expected.
If Dreamscape doesn't return in this episode, I will be disappointed.
