you’re not from around here , are you? i figured because you totally just missed NICCOLO BELMONTE walking by. don’t tell me you don’t know who HE is/are ? they kind of look like AARON TAYLOR JOHNSON and i could be wrong but i think that they might be THIRTY-FIVE years old right now. they’ve been living in palmview for the last TEN YEARS. and i don’t know if anyone has ever told them this before but they kind of remind me of BILLY DUNNE from DAISY JONES AND THE SIX. if you stick around the town long enough you might catch them in action working at PEARL’S SEAFOOD BISTRO as a HEAD CHEF. you see this town isn’t really that big of a place, some folks like to call them the GUARDED of palmview! they took a liking to the name too after a while, go figure. oh crap, they must have heard me yapping. they’re coming this way. i got to warn you though, rumor has it they can pretty SELF-CRITICAL at times. i wouldn’t take it too seriously though, from the times i’ve spoken to them they seemed pretty LOYAL to me. we see each other all the time since they live in that TWO BEDROOM residence beside me over in MANGO BAY LOFTS, LOFT 2A. i better leave you to it. it was nice meeting you!

nico was born and raised as the eldest of three siblings. he loves his two sisters dearly, and found him becoming even more protective over the two of them when their father suddenly ran off with his secretary shortly after the youngest was born. their mother's difficult work schedule meant that he had to grow up quickly, but he wouldn't have had it every other way. he loves his sisters more than anything, and would do anything for them.

it was in taking care of his sisters that he found his love for food. making dinner when he had to -- he loved discovering new elements about making meals that made them happy. thus a secret hope to go to culinary school was born, but he feared putting pressure on his mother. as for his general social life outside of the house, nico was always quiet, the brooding type -- but he was always creating something. besides cooking, he took an interest in music, which he carries with him to this day.

when he finally tells his mom he wants to be a chef, it's an emotional conversation -- because she wondered why he had waited so long to tell her. he hadn't wanted to burden her because of how much she already did for them. and yet, she knew she wanted to make her son's dream come true.

he begins working as a line cook when he's fifteen after lying about his age -- and gives half of his paycheck to his mother to help with basic bills ( she fought it, but her son was insistent ), which gives him plenty of experience. thus, the time eventually comes when he's accepted into the culinary institute of america.

the next years were a blur -- but he found success, as much as he felt like was competing with his fellow students at a consistent rate. perhaps it's why the bar trips start, to cope with the stress of feeling like he'd never be enough. these trips soon spiral, leading to an eventual stint in rehab that causes him to pause and think: does he remember the past two years of his life since graduation? how long has it been since he called his mom? his sisters?

he crashes on his mother's couch in the first year after getting out of rehab, home from posh new york, as some of the people in his hometown whispered. like he was a sellout. his former boss takes him on to help him get on his feet again, with the notion that he'll be breathalyzed as soon as he walks in the door -- which he doesn't fight at all. he's just grateful that the people closest to him never gave up on him.

once he gets his one year sober chip, he finally finds the stamina to turn the page. start over. palmview grove almost seemed like a utopia, somewhere that he'd convinced himself he'd never fit into -- and yet, something in it called to him. he jumps around some smaller kitchens when he first arrives, before he shoots his shot when the head chef position opens at pearls. he even brings his five years sober chip to his interview, and places it on the table. he'll never forget the speech that followed. i'm five years sober as of last month, and it's the best thing i've ever done. last thing i want is to feel like i'm hidin' anythin' from you. test me, i don't care. i just wanna do right by you. maybe it was his honesty, but he was offered the job on the spot.

he keeps a religious regimen with his way of life. he goes to work and he always goes to his meetings. outside of those two things, he always makes time for the people in his life. maybe because he believes he wouldn't be here without them. he also has found himself a new habit of going to church every sunday, and goes to confession when he feels himself struggling. he knows himself better now than he ever could have anticipated.

nico doesn't really date much -- perhaps a little too comfortable with his life of solitude. he has mostly indulged in the occasional casual relationship, perhaps a bit too scared to let people in. he bachelor pad that he moved into two years ago is clean and well-kept, he takes good care of himself, and he even adopted a pitbull named ajax last year. looking back at his life twelve years ago, he never expected himself to get here.
