Obie: How was the flight?

Dane: The flight itself wasn’t bad. Leading up to the flight, though…

Nicole: That delay was brutal! We would have left much later had we known.

Walker: Well, at least you got here with some time to spare.

Nicole: Yeah, but I’m sorry to have missed our lunch reservation. We really wanted to spend time with you two before the festivities kicked into high gear!

Walker: No worries, mom. We still have the post wedding brunch.

Nicole: I know, but it’s not the same Wally.

Obie: Maybe we can grab drinks tonight, after the rehearsal dinner?

Dane: No, no, no, no, no. You two absolutely need your rest tonight. Trust us. Tomorrow is gonna be exhausting!

Nicole: Your father’s right. Tomorrow will be a long day, and we ladies will have to be in the bridal suite by 9:30.

Walker: Fine…

Me and Obie picking up my mom and dad officially began in the final countdown. At least in my head.

Obie: We’ll figure something out before we leave for Dambele.

Honestly, as much as I loved Obie’s suggestion, I just couldn’t focus on house hunting… not at that moment, anyway.

Imane, understood, but agreed with Obie. Though she feared we’d be priced out the longer we waited, we all agreed that the hunt could wait a few more months, just no more than six. So, we stuck a pin in it and put all our energy into the wedding. 

Dev & Dirk came in clutch helping us secure The Pinnacle Gardens; and with the big wheels in motion, our attention could finally turn toward the fine details. The fun parts…

Noble Designs in Willow Creek | Two weeks later:

G: Welcome home baby girl! It’s so good to see you!

W: It’s good to be back! Thank you so much for doing this. I really appreciate it.

G: Chile, please! I’ve been waiting for this day since your mama told me you were moving West to pursue that boy.

N: I said no such thing! *Walker giggles*

G: Mhmm… Come. We have a private suite for you, and everyone is waiting upstairs.

W: Aunt Glo, that wasn’t necessary—

G: Nonsense! Nikki tells me you’re looking for the more fitted silhouettes— trumpet and mermaid—

W: Yes, but I’m open to being surprised.

G: Smart girl.

N: Tea length might be nice too.

W: Yeah. I’m leaning more toward romantic than sexy.

W: How was your flight?

N: Uneventful; just how we like it. *both laugh*

W: I’m so happy you were able to be here.

N: You can thank your beautiful fiancé for that. Is he home?

W: No… *whining* He went back to the office today.

N: *chuckles* Well, he’ll likely be taking a lot of time off in the near future, so cut him some slack.

W: Yeah, yeah, yeah.

N: How quickly you forget about office life! All that entrepreneurial scheduling is getting to your head.

W: Whatever. *both laugh* When do you go back?

N: Next week, but until then we can get the wedding ball rolling.

W: *laughing* Ma, I’ve been engaged three whole days!

N: *also laughing* I know, I was there. Remember? I was already set to have dinner with Aunt Gloria, on Wednesday. Might as well see if she has any recs on a planner.

W: Obie and I’ve barely discussed anything. Most of the family just left town this morning.

N: I got that. She’s just helping me with the lay of the land. She knows some of the best event planners in the industry. I’m just picking her brain.

W: *jokingly* You mean we’re not planning it ourselves?

N: *laughing* Walker, I haven’t planned a wedding in 37 years. If wedding planners were available to me back then… shoot! *both laugh*

W: What if Obie and I decide to wed out here?

N: The Valley?

W: Yeah… I mean, it’s not set in stone, but I mentioned it to him last night and he liked the idea. Afterall, his family is here… our life is here—

N: You don’t have to convince me. Makes sense.

W: You think?

N: *gently* Yes, I think. His family has far more little ones than ours; not to mention, your friends are probably better equipped to travel than his.

W: Well, that didn’t sound classist at all… *Nicole groans* Kidding! I’m kidding. *sigh* Emmy, I’m sure, is fine but it might be hard for Jess—

N: Don’t worry about Jess. If she and Arun need help, we’ll help.

W: Ma—

N: Like you said, nothing is set in stone, yet. I’ll see who Glo recommends, and we’ll play it by ear. I’ll also see when she can get you in to shop.

W: Mom—

N: That is set in stone. She’ll never admit it, but she hurt to learn Devon picked a gown, without so much as a call.

W: That wasn’t Dev’s intent. She has to know that.

N: She does. But it still stung. She was there when your line crossed. And you, she actually watched you grow up—

W: I didn’t say no. It’s just a lot to think about right now, what with Dev’s wedding right around the corner and—

N: Take a breath, hon. It’ll be fine. Wednesday is just about getting names and catching up. The rest can wait until after Dev’s wedding.

Mama, indeed, got wonderful planner recs from Aunt Gloria during her dinner back in January. She was also told that I just had to name the date and Aunt Glo would arrange a private viewing for me and my girls when the time came to find my gown.

Given how much business picked up after Melanie Pierson’s wedding photos went public, this was no small promise!

As for the planner, Aunt Glo gave us a few names but was really pulling for a young lady she had only interacted with a handful of times at trunk shows & conventions. However, Ms. Courtney Gibson, had clearly left quite an impression.

She was an underdog in the truest sense of the word; young and new to the profession, but Aunt Glo had such faith in her we had to at least give an interview.

I was hesitant at first, but after looking her up and eventually speaking with her, Obie and I understood Aunt Glo’s admiration. She was bright, full of ideas and very, very hungry.

Looking through her portfolio, it was clear she could do a lot with a little; so, with simoleans like that of my parents, the world would her oyster. She was able to sell us a vision based on our brief conversations, replete with rough estimates and detailed timelines, unlike the others. It was obvious that our wedding, our circle, would open doors she’d been trying to access her whole young career.

And knowing that this was her one in a million shot to meet her dream clientele, Courtney was absolutely determined to make our special day a crowning achievement! Her excitement and confidence sparked our own; and just like that, in just one meeting, we were off to the races!
