Take a shot every time Suetonius mentions Nicomedes IV of Bithynia in the Life of Julius Caesar
Julius Caesar serving wine to Nicomedes IV.
I'm disappointed in you history side of tumblr, there's no one single post about Julius Caesar and Nikomedes IV. Caesar had a diplomatic visit to the king, but was there for so long, people called him the queen of Bithynia (Nikomedes's kingdom), Nikomedes died without children and bequeathed his entire kingdom to Rome. There's a story there, would make interesting book/tv.
Edit: ...Aand turns out, I was writing his name wrong in english, fuck. Still not going to remove this post.
Nicomedes IV & Julius Caesar
I don’t know, I just love to draw them (:
“Corona Civica” - Julius Caesar & Nicomedes IV
During his time in Bithynia, Julius Caesar received the “Corona Civica”, the highest honor a roman citizen could get, for saving the life of a fellow soldier risking his own. This was during the battle after the siege of Mitilene, while he was in a relationship with the king of Bithynia, Nicomedes IV. Caesar was sent to the king to get a Naval Fleet and ended living with him for three years, even when the battle was some months after we arrived… So this illustration came because I just love that part of History 🤭
A very young Julius Caesar and king Nicomedes IV.
This illustration is part of a story I’m writing about the relationship between Julius Caesar and king Nicomedes IV of Bithynia. This scene is 10 years before de main story, about the time Nicomedes had to hide in Rome, protected by the father of Caesar.
They are speaking about myths, songs and Greece.
“Los favoritos” (The favourites)
I’ve been writing a collection of historical fictions about the favourites (aka Lovers) of four kings from different periods and lands. This is the illustration I did for the cover of the first story.
I’m really excited for this project!
Title Translation: “Gaius: When Julius Caesar was Queen of Bithynia”
About the time when Julius Caesar shared a couple of years in his youth with king Nicomedes IV of Bithynia.
