Number 7 on the Nightfall Rising Playlist is "Winter Winds" by Mumford & Sons.
This song is on the playlist because I love the lyrics, "And my head told my heart / Let love grow / But my heart told my head / This time no". I felt that this was a fascinating reversal of the trope of your heart wanting someone but your mind saying you can't handle it. There will definitely be a little of this throughout the series. Not only romantically, but platonically and famillially, as well.
Song number 5 on my Nightfall Rising Playlist is "Little Lion Man" by Mumford & Sons. This song is on the playlist because it really can go on every playlist, can't it? Well, I do love this song enough, but that's not why it's on here. This song seemed particularly suited to this playlist because of the idea of fucking up, making mistakes, and having to live with those mistakes. These are all rather relevant to Nightfall Rising.
Song number 4 on my Nightfall Rising Playlist is “In the Ghetto” by Elvis Presley.
What did I tell you about Elvis? He features a lot on this playlist. This song was the one that really started the playlist in the first place. The whole story of it became integral to the story. Both the tone and mood of the song as well as the story of economic hardship inspired a lot of the series.
Song number 3 on my Nightfall Rising Playlist is “(You’re the) Devil in Disguise” by Elvis Presley.
I’m honestly not sure why this song is on here other than that Elvis came to feature a lot on the playlist. As I wrote, the songs that fit the mood of the story definitely started to gravitate toward 40s and 50s music with the occasional interlude from the 60s, 70s, and beyond. There is also a theme of duplicity and devilry that features in a lot of the songs that I chose, which I suppose ties in thematically with the novels.
