i commissioned the super awesome @kf1n3 to paint my inquisitor, niko lavellan, and i just have to say that i love it so much!!! her art style is seriously gorgeous and if y’all are looking for artists to commission from, you should look into supporting her whenever she has more spots available!!
hey!! fact for an oc: Niko is really quiet, so he can sneak up on nearly anyone though he doesn't mean to. he's used to sneaking up on prey and scouting for his clan, and these talents come in handy during his time as Inquisitor. however, he uses it more often to help Sera with her pranks or to scare poor Dorian if he's feeling especially playful :)
Oh that’s so cool!
Miri Lavellan is like…the exact opposite of that x) Luckily she was born with the ability to do magic because she would have made a terrible rogue. She fumbles around a lot, sometimes knocking into something or knocking it over. It’s even worse when she’s nervous or purposely trying to be quiet. She’s not as clumsy when she gets drunk, but Miri being intoxicated is a very rare thing.
no one really knows anything about my boy except what he looks like so here’s some basic info about his personality, a few more under the cut bc they’re a little long.
Compassion
Arguably, this is the main trait I think should be associated with him above anything else. His main goal by accepting role of Inquisitor was simply to help those that could not defend themselves. That being said, his big heart also makes leadership difficult. He tends to be overly forgiving and too trusting to the brink of absolute betrayal. (Solas’s betrayal destroys him, even though they weren’t that close.) Pretty naive at times.
Fear of Failure
Seeing the future of the world if he were to fail constantly haunts him in every decision he makes and mission he sets out upon. The stakes are incredibly high. The more people tell him they look up to him, the worse it gets. The approval he seeks never makes the anxiety feel better. He will do anything to save Thedas, though sometimes he is very indecisive. Mostly, he tries to rely on his conscience.
Meek
It’s actually the loss of naivety and meekness that makes this a valuable trait. At the beginning of the story, at the Conclave, he’s never been outside of the clan or in the world of humans. His initial inability to stand up for himself prevents him from being treated as he should. He allows himself to be looked down upon and believes himself unworthy of his new title as Herald as he believes in the Elvhen Pantheon. But as he surrounds himself with this unique group of friends in the Inquisition, he realizes that being different empowers him. He comes to terms that some people simply won’t like him no matter what the Inquisition accomplishes. He no longer allows himself to feel shame in his heritage.
Over Emotional
With his great compassion and ability to empathize, taking on such a task as saving the world from the brink of destruction tends to wear on him more than a resilient person. He’s very connected to his emotions, though that makes him vulnerable to emotional manipulation (such as giving up Inquisition plans or secrets when his friends/family are threatened). He suffers from chronic survivor’s guilt. He simply cannot hide his true feelings about situations or people, and has a terrible poker face. His resulting honesty can be valuable.
Fact about an OC: Das is absolutely the type to start goofing around during a mission just to pass the time. Sticking twigs in his hair and doing the 'halla face' (1st time he did that Dorian was caught totally of guard and snort-laughed in the most un-elegant manner), doing funny impersonations of the absent (or present) Inquisition members - Vivienne walk, Cullen frown, *disgusted noise*... Playing one of those silly games when you can only step on stones & dragging *everyone* into the game...
Hello there! Omg that’s so funny! He sounds like a blast! :)
Niko will only do impersonations if he’s drunk, and tends to remain rather focused on missions. He does like to talk to his companions and share jokes with them that he thinks they’ll like, or pick flowers that remind him of them. (a special meaning to the blossom that matches the companion, etc)
