Good morning 👋. So here are a pair of Black-Bellied Whistling Ducks (Dendrocygna autumnalis) I was able to "photoed" at #celebrationflorida 😍. At the time (about a year ago), I have never seen one before, so this was a very celebrated sight 😝. When I spotted them from afar, I thought these could be Muscovy Ducks, which are quite common in #Miami . So I guess my mind was somehow conditioned 😂. As I got closer, to my surprise and excitement I realized that I was wrong 😀. Have you seen this species of duck before? Good Morning 👋. Bird bills may seem cumbersome features. In reality, the diversity of bird bill shapes and lengths have allowed birds to adapt and thrive. This American White Pelican (Pelecanus erythrorhynchos) gladly accepting a snack at #zoomiami is a fine example of a species with a specialized bill (made possible by evolution 😜). The long "hooked" bill comes accesorized with a gular sac (pouch) which allows the bird to maximize the amount or size of food items it can collect at a time 😮. Comments regarding evolution, birds, this photo in general are welcomed below 🙏.
