Do you have any advice on eliminating male mouse odor? My sister has super smell, so she can already smell it from the front door far beyond my room when she walks into the apartment. I’ve tried vinegar spray, an air purifier, and extra absorbent bedding, etc. nothing helps :(
I feel your pain, my mom also is very sensitive to the smell of my mice. The smell doesn’t bother me much unless the bins are dirty, however my dog’s odor is very strong to me, and likewise my mom doesn’t notice that. Animals have odors and different people are sensitive to different smells and that’s just something you have to deal with when you have pets unfortunately :(
Pine or aspen bedding with PDZ (granules, not the powder; bought from Tractor Supply Co) has been the most effective at keeping the smell down for me but nothing will completely remove it. A cup of baking soda near the cage and an extra fan to help circulate the air in the room is useful also.
Don’t do complete bedding changes as that will make them mark more intensely, instead do maybe 75-90% changes and leave their nest intact. Avoid wooden toys and opt instead for cardboard that can be thrown out when it is soiled or plastic that can be easily cleaned.
