🤥 PUB WEEK BOOK REVIEW 🤥 I have been sick since Monday, so I missed posting this on pub day for @maureenjohnsonbooks, so instead I'll say a VERY HAPPY PUB WEEK🎉 to Maureen & NINE LIARS! I cannot thank Maureen, @epicreads & @mbc_books enough for this super limited ARC, now one of my most-treasured books 😍 (as well as the finished copy they sent, which I was able to host a giveaway for a few weeks ago). I read this while at my parents' house for Christmas, & I loved it even more than book four, which was a 5-star read for me last year! (In fact, the entire series has been 5-star reads, so if you haven't read it yet, what are you waiting for??) In NINE LIARS, Stevie & the gang (Vi, Janelle, & Nate) travel to London for a 10-day "study abroad" trip--aka, a way for Stevie to spend time with David, who's in school there. A new friend of David's brings to Stevie a cold case her aunt had been involved in from the 1990s--meaning we have lots of references to 90s Britpop (Blur v. Oasis: what say you?!), which is fun since I was in college & law school then. Anyway, I'm a sucker for a locked-room mystery, a country manor mystery, & a mystery involving a tight-knit group of friends who turn out to be not so tight-knit after all, & this book has all of the above! There's also great exploration of friendship, between Stevie's group & the 1990s friends, like what it means to actually be a good friend & how we handle the end of an idyllic period of friendship (high school, college) before heading innto adulthood. I loved everything about this book, & I stayed up til the wee hours of the morning reading it two nights in a row. I can't recommend NINE LIARS, & the *entire* Truly Devious series, highly enough! I want more people to read it, so if you have questions about it, feel free to DM! Yes, this is YA, so you have some typical YA stuff like first love/relationship, etc, but it's so dang smart & the mysteries so complex & fun to follow & figure out that adults will love it too.
