@mrswhozeewhatsis YOU GOT TO HANG OUT WITH MARK SHEPPARD????? -heavy breathing-
Well, I got to stand next to him and put my arm around him. He’s really quite huggable. And highly observant. And awesome.
In 2016, from the start of the weekend to the end, I went from perfectly capable of pretty much anything to needing a cane and having heart palpitations. Early Saturday, I had a photo op with Mark. We traded sentences, he finished mine, we hugged, and I was gone. At that point, I was doing pretty well. By the time his autograph came around, I was using the cane and feeling a bit like a wrung-out dishrag. When I got in front of him, I had nothing to say, since I’d already said it during the photo op, so just said hi.
Mark recognized me, said, “Hello, darling,” and checked in with me because of the cane. (He asked me something about if I was getting tired and nodded at my cane.) I was completely flabbergasted. So much so, I couldn’t do more than nod.
As snarky as he can be when answering questions during panels, Mark LOVES his fans. We are not just a job for him. We are individual people and he notices us. Every time a fan chokes up, he’s there to comfort and support them. Every time a fan dresses up, he compliments their costume. And sheesh, don’t let him near a baby, you’ll lose him completely. He loves kids and is so amazing with them.
He is incredibly intelligent and doesn’t suffer fools, but he is also caring and compassionate. Kim Rhodes once said she wouldn’t be on earth if it weren’t for him, and even though she didn’t say why, I believe it. I can believe that he saw someone in need and stepped in. I think he tries to keep a distance to protect his own mental health, but that’s completely different from not caring.
Mark Sheppard is a prince and no one can convince me otherwise.
