In less than 2 years, our guama machete aka ice cream beans are already flowering! Seriously can’t wait to share these with the kids. Osmia aglaia on Dutch white clover (Trifolium repens). Dutch white clover is the common white flower that grows in lawns. I've been working hard to mix it into my lawn in mass quantities this year. While bees enjoy visiting it, the benefits don't stop there- this clover can fix up to 170 lbs. of nitrogen per acre, which makes for very potent soil. This brings me back to my childhood each and every time! Mimosa pudica is not only nitrogen fixing and medicinal, but it’s also entertainment for hours. The leaves open up again after a few minutes in the same order that they closed. Final harvest of green pigeon peas with @pennylane324. So fresh and delicious! Pigeon peas are both a food crop (dried peas, flour, or green vegetable peas) and a forage/cover crop. The dried peas may be sprouted briefly, then cooked, for a flavor different from the green or dried peas. Sprouting also enhances the digestibility of dried pigeon peas via the reduction of indigestible sugars that would otherwise remain in the cooked dried peas. Pigeon peas are in some areas an important crop for green manure, providing up to 90 kg nitrogen per hectare. The woody stems of pigeon peas can also be used as firewood, fencing and thatch.
