About the no caps trend
I don't have a high dyslexia level, just a bit, but I have to say that big texts (understand : more than 5 lines of text) with no caps used for the first word of each sentence makes it more difficult to read.
.
I get lost in the lines very easily to start with, and the caps are very good anchor points to start reading a sentence again when I miss a line. Or if I need to re-read the start of a sentence because I read it badly, or if a word made no sense.
Without it I spend 5 to 10 seconds to find the start of the sentence. Sometimes even more. The worst I got was about half a minute, and I just ended up re-reading everything from the start out of frustration. While with the caps it's almost instantaneous. Of course, it's worst when there are no distinct paragraphs (in both situations).
This doesn't seems like much, but now think about this happening multiple times in a long text, and add the multiple fails at reading the correct line again, and.. Yeah.
.
I did try to write some long texts with no caps myself, because yeah, who needs caps when it's not a universal language thing? But writing this way made it SO hard for me to re-read myself, to find the start of a sentence when I wanted to add something that came to mind later. And this coupled with the issue mentioned above, not a great thing. So yeah, I won't be doing it anymore, except for very short responses maybe.
.
So turns out, maybe no caps isn't very friendly for people who struggles with reading in the first place.
I'm sharing this because I have yet to see anyone else post about it (on my dashboard that is, I didn't look for people being possibly in the same situation).
And because I think it's important to also not forget that we are not all equal when it comes to reading, and a trend shouldn't make something like reading being so much more tedious for people who already struggle with reading and writing in the first place.
Again, I'm not even at such a high level of dyslexia, so I can't imagine how terrible this must be for someone with bigger issues.
I just hope this will be heard, and I'm curious to have the experiences from other people with reading issues as well, how you feel about this trend, how it affects your reading experience and so on.
