Virgil Moore made his way downstairs as his doorbell rang, showing no excitement. He was excited, to be sure, his best friend Logan Croft was always something to be excited about.
Upon opening the door his excitement dimmed. Logan stood there, as expected, but so did Logan’s little brothers.
Twins Roman and Remy Croft were holy terrors at the age of seven. Roman idolized Virgil’s cousin, an actor, and wore a prince costume all the time. Remy would only wear leather jackets and sunglasses, and when he could get one, a cup of Starbucks coffee. He had coffee today, in fact.
“That stuff’s gonna stunt your growth, Rems.” Virgil liked the twins well enough, when they weren’t invading his home without prior notice.
“That is actually scientifically inaccurate. Early researched suggested an association between caffeine intake and reduced calcium absorption, which is necessary for bone strength and health. Also-“
“Does that mean I’ll be taller than Remy someday? A prince has got to slay!”
“Gurl, you know that won’t ever happen.” Remy looked at Roman over his sunglasses. Virgil snorted and reached out with both hands to ruffle the twins’ hair.
“My apologies for the unexpected intrusion, Virgil. Mother decided to invite some acquaintances over for dinner.” By the grimace on Logan’s face, Virgil could tell that the people Mrs. Croft had over might not be the kind two kids should meet.
He shrugged, moving back from the doorway. “It’s no big, L. The brats can watch a movie or something.”
“DISNEY!” Roman barreled past Virgil into the living room, intent on picking the first movie. Logan sighed and pushed his glasses up.
Remy sauntered in as well, sipping his coffee nonchalantly.
“I am sorry, Virgil. I am well aware that you do not like things to be out of the ordinary.”
Virgil shrugged again, closing the door behind his friend.
“So, how about that Chem homework?”
