today I coined a useful phrase for myself and that phrase was: Chicken Nugget Praxis

sometimes the best thing you can do is bribe and distract someone away from causing harm so you can address the underlying issues in a safer, more stable place later

don't try and throw yourself between your drunk friend and the fight they're trying to start (replace as appropriate). don't try to reason with people who are currently raging, upset and irrational. buy them some chicken nuggets and help them step off and calm down. and that's how you do an everyday transformative justice. prevent harm now in whatever boring unglamorous way you can, so that you can take the time and space to prevent harm later before it even begins.
