NoMBe - Freak Like Me
As long time fans of NoMBe, the German-born Los Angeles-based musician who’s been taking us on a brilliant journey with the monthly songs off his forthcoming debut album, we have much to celebrate soon. Not only is Noah McBeth making an appearance at SXSW later this month (with a set at our pal We Found New Music’s showcase co-presented by Interscope, details here), but NoMBe has also announced his San Francisco debut, alongside Mansionair, at Popscene at the Rickshaw Stop on April 25th (tickets, here). As if all this welcome news hasn’t already left us delirious with excitement, NoMBe has teamed up with Brooklyn electro/alt project Big Data on a fresh new tune, too! You never know quite what to expect when a NoMBe track crops up. He’s given us woozy intoxicating soul tracks, alt R&B infused jams, and a plethora of everything in between. On Drama, NoMBe and Big Data gives us torrid strumming, funky strutting electro soul, and it leaves us ever the more ravenous for debut album They Might’ve Even Loved Me, arriving March 23rd on TH3RD BRAIN Records. Each song on the album tells a different story about the women who have shaped NoMBe’s life, from his godmother, Chaka Khan, to high school crushes, summer flings, his girlfriend, and his mother. Through NoMBe’s music, we vicariously experience love, intimacy, sex, heartbreak, and euphoria, and we find ourselves relating to it all through our own personal heartaches and joys, too. Drama is a muggy sweltering, smooth gliding meditation on romantic turmoil. The single is available, here.
“wait” - nombe
since first hearing “california girls” back in ’15 and almost a yr hiatus, noah mcbeth is back on my musical radar. oh & fun fact, i just learned his godmother is chaka khan.
his debut is finally going 2 b gracing our ears sometime in 2k17, but for now we have “wait” and more recently “young hearts.” the track is super sexi, plus there’s some hot guitar, & let’s not forget the most important part: his vocals *melts into oblivion*
