"youth" - glass animals
over the past few weeks, the chatter surrounding 2016 has become frankly inescapable. i no longer have an ig account (this is a non-humble brag), but i’m still lurking on twitter (which kind of negates me not being on ig) and in enough group chats to have a general sense of what’s going on.
for the most part, 2016 wasn’t the worst year. especially when you compare it to the more recent ones. music-wise, there was a lot, and most of it was quite good. you had that one marian hill song that was in every commercial and movie trailer. anohni came back with “drone bomb me” (that naomi campbell video, tho). every person i knew seemed to be getting stick-and-poke tattoos while this played at some blue bottle location. and i was no longer working in the pitchfork basement halsey threatened to bomb.
during this 2016 resurgence, i took it upon myself to revisit some music from ten years ago. and if i had to sum it all up, “youth” by glass animals does a pretty good job. off their second album, how to be a human being, it’s one of those songs i always come back to. it doesn’t get old, imo. recently, i put it on in the car, rolled all the windows down, and blasted it. i highly recommend doing this if you have a car readily available.
while i could keep droning on about artists, songs, and musicians who are no longer making music from 2016, i figured it’d be easier to just share my playlists from spring, summer, fall, and winter from that year below. enjoy, my fellow [redacted]-year-olds.
