Kade's Formula 1 x Marauders AU: Retired Drivers (Pt.7)
Russian, 34 years old with 65 races wins and 126 podiums along with 4 consecutive WDCs and the most dominant season in Formula 1 history, Lucius Malfoy (better known as "The Iceman") has become a legend of the sport. Debuting in 2012 at just 21-years-old with Williams, Malfoy looked like another hotshot rookie whose spark would burn and fizzle out long before it ever caught fire, only managing a single measly podium over two seasons. However, the narrative around him would completely change following his move to Mercedes in 2014, something longtime fans of the sport called "desperate" on the Constructor's part. He would win his first season in Mercedes, finally allowed to show off raw talent and pace in a championship winning car, and he would not stop winning until 2017 when longtime rival Frank Longbottom would put his championship crusade to rest for good. Over his and Mercedes four years of complete domination, he would become one of the youngest world champions ever and steal Schumacher's record for most dominant Formula 1 season in 2016 where he won a whopping 17 out of 21 races, emerging with an 80.95% win rate. Even after Malfoy and Mercedes' domination was put to rest, Malfoy never missed out on taking a trip to the top step of the podium at least once a season. However, disaster would strike during the 2023 Brazilian Grand Prix when Malfoy was battling Evan Rosier of Red Bull as Rosier would completely lose the brakes of his car, causing him to T-Bone Malfoy into the wall through Turn 10. Malfoy fell unconscious in the car and the entire racing world held it's breath until Mercedes put out the official statement that Malfoy would be retiring, effective immediately, reserve driver Emmeline Vance taking his place for the final two races of the season. Malfoy wouldn't make his next public appearance until 2024 when he returned to the Formula 1 paddock as the manager of Xenophilius Malfoy and Barty Crouch Jr., now with a cane and a permanent scowl on his face. Details of the accident and injury have been kept vague for Malfoy's privacy but the man himself explained he's lost close to all mobility in his right leg, stating "I'll never be able to drive again, no matter how badly I want to."
German, 37-years-old with 29 race wins, 51 podiums and 2 back to back World Championships, Fortescue's career in Formula 1 was short but by no means forgettable. Fortescue made her debut in 2009 at 21 with McLaren (where she would spend the entirety of her career) as the only female driver on the grid, facing mass ridicule from fans, media and fellow drivers, many of which dismissing her as a pay driver or a driver who wouldn't last particularly long. Fortescue told media prior to her first ever Formula 1 race that she didn't care for whatever the public chose to say about her, she cared about proving her worth on the track, something she very quickly achieved as she achieved a second place finish in her debut race, becoming the first to do so since 1996. She went on to quickly cement herself as a championship contender, proving her worth under pressure from fans, media, fellow drivers and her own team, but despite it all, murmurings that she didn't deserve her seat prevailed. Finally, Fortescue would silence every naysayer by winning the World Championship in 2011, becoming the first and so far only woman to do so. She would go on to win the Championship the following year as well, and acquire her nickname "The Empress" after multiple articles stated she had rekindled the "McLaren Empire" from the ashes of Prost and Senna. However, her career wouldn't last much longer as she announced her retirement from Formula 1 at the end of the 2014 season, stating she'd simply lost her passion for the sport but not for racing and going on to announce her move to the World Endurance Championship. She'd showcase her skill once again throughout her career in WEC, winning both Le Mans and the Nordschleife, as well as multiple championships with her team. She would retire from motorsports entirely in 2022 but her involvement would not stop there as Fortescue now works as the Managing Director of F1 Academy and manages 2025 McLaren driver Marlene McKinnon.
Columbian, 36-years-old with 82 race wins, 146 podiums and 5 consecutive World Championships, if anyone deserves the nickname "El Rey", it's Frank Longbottom. He debuted in Formula 1 with Sauber at 21 in 2011, putting in decent performances and regularly scoring points quickly earning him the reputation of somehow managing to drag backmarkers into points due to his "tyre whispering" abilities. He made the move to Lotus in just his sophomore season and there he was able to score both his maiden podium and maiden win, consistently outdriving his car in practically every single race, most notably managing to win the 2014 Monaco Grand Prix despite massive sidepod damage following a collision on his way out of the pitlane. These performances were what finally caught Ferrari's eye, and he was signed with the team in 2015, instantly engaging in one of the most violent and brutal rivalries with Malfoy, the two fighting tooth and nail for every championship, Longbottom coming up short every year until 2018. Nowadays, Longbottom almost fondly refers to Malfoy as "the Senna to my Prost" but during their fights, they couldn't so much as look each other in the eye. Longbottom would clinch his first championship in 2018, putting an end to Malfoy and Mercedes' dominance before starting a dynasty of his own. While he continued to fight Malfoy until his retirement, Malfoy would never come out on top again and Longbottom would rack up 5 consecutive titles from 2018 to 2022, the season of his eventual retirement, rightfully earning himself his nickname of "The King" and equalizing Micheal Schumacher's record for most wins at a single team, equalizing the record at the exact same team. Now, Longbottom has completely retired from all forms of motorsport but stays engaged with Formula 1 in other ways, now managing James Potter as well as returning to the paddock regularly to commentate.
