Guilty Pleasure Television Shows
Gladiolus: “Naked and Afraid”,
Everyone already knows how much of a nature lover Gladio is, so it isn’t too much of a surprise that he watches this. He does fully appreciate the more serious survival shows where he can pick up legitimate survival skills like on ‘Man vs. Wild’ or anything with Bear Grylls, really, he has a bit of a man crush on him to be completely honest. Gladio records the season in advance and sits down to watch it when he’s got nothing better to do. He watches it mainly for its comedic value despite Iris chastising him for laughing at other people’s misfortune but he always backs himself up by saying that the contestants knew what they were signing up for in the first place. Despite watching it for the laughs, he often gets frustrated in the end with people’s sheer stupidity but that doesn’t stop him from watching it all the way through.
Gladio does recognise the show as a guilty pleasure, although he doesn’t act all too guilty about it. If someone walked in on him watching the show, he would conceal his embarrassment by hypothetically putting himself in the contestant’s shoes and talking himself up, saying what he’d do and how he’d win the show hands down.
“If I was on this show, I wouldn’t be ‘Naked and Afraid’, I’d just be Naked.”
Ignis: “Come Dine with Me (UK)”,
Ignis usually sits down to watch the show when he’s having trouble sleeping late at night because it’s more often than not when episodes of it are broadcasted back to back, it saves him the hassle because his duties serving the Crownsguard don’t leave him with a schedule that allows him to wait for the weekly installments. Ignis thoroughly enjoys the backhanded compliments and demeaning remarks that the narrator dishes out about the contestants. He isn’t able to contain himself and will pick apart the contestants dishes, critically analysing what they shouldn’t have done and what they could have done better, like not buying a premade salad from the grocery store or serving the cut of meat that had fallen onto the floor. Ignis gives his own score when it comes to that point in the show and gets frustrated if the contestants scores greatly differ from his own. He has a love-hate relationship with this show and often questions himself for watching it.
He’d be moderately embarrassed if caught watching the show, but wouldn’t deny it. Ignis would be quite happy for someone to sit down and watch it with him if they liked it. He would voice his opinions and give snarky comments throughout, a lot of talking would be involved and it would make for a thoroughly entertaining evening. He might even crack open a bottle of wine to share.
“How could he have the audacity to give her an eight? Presentation was awful and the food was subpar, I would give her a five, maximum.”
Noctis: “My Strange Addiction”,
Noctis hasn’t been watching it for very long, but the most embarrassing thing he hates to admit is that he’s already caught up on every episode thus far. He even skipped out on a whole day of meetings, claiming that he wasn’t feeling well, just so he could lie in his bed and watch every episode with an arsenal of junk food at his side. Noctis thinks that it is one of the best, but weirdest shows he’s ever watched, although you wouldn’t think he liked it very much due to the ever present frowns and looks of disbelief plastered on his face due to these people’s ‘addictions’. He’s set reminders on his phone when it’s on, and even then, he has it on record just in case he won’t be home in time to watch it.
If caught out, Noctis wouldn’t be too embarrassed. He’d carry on watching it as normal, although if he was walked in on during a particularly odd part he’d fill them in on what’s going on, mostly to cover himself, and wait for their reaction. If their reaction was positive, he’d even invite the person to sit down and watch it with him if he knew them well enough. He’s used to watching it by himself, save for the few times that the guys had dropped in on him, but he’d find it a lot more fun to watch if someone else was next to him and just as invested as he is.
“Okay, I love the Regalia, but I would never do that.”
Prompto: “Sex Sent Me to the ER”,
Prompto doesn’t watch the show to be a pervert, it’s just that he gets a real kick out of the awkward situations that people have gotten themselves into while doing the do. He knows full well that the events are dramatised for entertainment value, sometimes painfully so, but he still finds it fun to watch. Even though he’ll most likely not need to, but just in case, Prompto takes mental notes during the show to avoid any embarrassing moments that might happen to him in the future while in the heat of the moment. He’s content with other people’s escapades being broadcasted and not his own, but if something did happen to him, he couldn’t not send his story in, could he?
If caught watching the show, Prompto would flat out deny watching it and try to come up with an excuse. He would say that he was channel surfing despite the remote being on the opposite side of the lounge and out of arms reach. Although, when with the guys and they pass a location that reminds him of an episode, he’ll be sure to tell them ‘a story he heard’ from ‘someone you wouldn’t know’. It always makes for an interesting conversation.
“Did you guys hear about the couple that had sex in the ocean and got stuck together?”
