curious how you feel abt paul weller as it pertains to the ln dynamic. like the whole liam being jealous of weller bc noel so clearly admires him and has no issue doling the affection that liam always has to fight for. i feel like liam doesn’t know what to do about weller bc like…noel was into the jam before liam even cared abt music. would loveeee ur noelweller take. love ttwwtb and ur work <3

as for weller and noel… well, i really like weller and his music, but i’m not particularly interested in exploring his relationship with noel because, at the end of the day, i’m kind of a “gcest purist”, so i truly believe that noel will never have a bond with another man that runs as deep as the one he has with liam.

that being said, i don’t think we can completely ignore weller and noel’s relationship even from a gcest lore perspective, because weller definitely falls into that category of men liam seems to grow jealous over whenever they get too close to noel. but is that jealousy romantic? yes and no, in my opinion. i think liam is actually fairly secure in the uniqueness of what he has with noel, and in the idea that no other man could ever truly replicate or replace that bond, so i don’t think he necessarily feels “threatened” in that sense. i think what really gets under liam’s skin is seeing noel emotionally invested in other men, especially men he clearly admires or enjoys spending time with. like weller, in the first case, or matt morgan in the second. it’s almost as if part of liam thinks: “he’s only supposed to admire me. i’m supposed to be the only one who can make him laugh.”

something i’ve always found interesting about noel and weller’s relationship is that weller tends to act almost paternal towards him, while noel slips very naturally into the role of the younger protégé. there’s something oddly father-and-son coded about the whole dynamic, if you know what i mean. and i think that matters, because weller might represent a kind of father figure noel never truly had growing up, something he could never really seek in liam either, since liam is the younger brother and their relationship functions in reverse, with noel usually being the one pushed into the paternal role instead. i sometimes wonder if that might also be part of what bothers liam so much about their friendship: seeing another man give noel something he himself could never provide.

do i believe there’s anything openly romantic or sexual between them? no, not really. but at the same time, i can’t fully dismiss the possibility that noel might feel some level of attraction towards weller. just think about the way he looks at him, gravitates around him, or seems so comfortable being touched by him. though honestly, i see that same energy in some of noel’s other male friendships too, like the one he has with pep guardiola. i mean, every time him and pep are together, noel always act like teenager with a crush!

so i don’t necessarily think it has to be romantic in a literal sense, it could just be a form of very intense admiration that occasionally slips into something that resembles attraction. and i think liam’s frustration may stem from that exact thing: feeling excluded from this emotional “inner circle” noel has created around himself, to the point where, during the years of separation, liam may even have convinced himself that these people were somehow contributing to keeping noel away from him.

on a less serious note i loooove how cute noel acts with him. the gif of weller picking noel up is permanently engraved into my brain 🤯
