Okay I am back to normal. I LOVE that family you have outlined. I love childhood friends to lovers, I love that it seems they were both pining for quite a while. Both kids seem adorable, even if Theo (Named for??? Zeke’s brother???? I gotta scroll your blog more and see if there’s more for that.)
More to the point:
What Do You Mean Nolan’s Stolen Daughters O_o
Hello again anon!!! Much love ♡♡♡ I haven't spoken much on Zeke on my blog but I have a collection of headcanons about everyone's favorite rambling old man, including a life back on Earth and his incomplete Ravenwood education. Considering both Stephanie and Zeke lost their birth families in being relocated to the Spiral and chose eachother, she felt that picking a family name seemed right.
AS FOR NOLAN.
Nolan Stormgate. Son of pirates and inventors, who elected to settle down in Wizard City where their son's magical proficiency wouldn't get them killed.
Nolan wants to repay his parents for their sacrifice. Nolan plans to marry up, in influence at least. Ends up marrying Sabrina Greenstar's younger sibling Eden.
Eden and Nolan are not in love. Let me make that very clear. They're friends, for sure, but that's about the limit. There's no romance. A lot of this is the Game that is upper class politics for Eden, and Nolan likes to run his mouth and feel important so it's a generally productive set-up.
Nolan and Eden have two daughters, both adopted, though Eden has zero emotional connection to the girls, seeing them more as props or obligations.
Quinn was a girl on the streets of Skull Island, had a sick older brother who couldn't keep caring for her. She would have died. Nolan and Eden agreed to take her back to the ship to feed her, and by adopting her they get the Happy Family image without Eden ever having to actually get pregnant.
Cynthia was only a little baby when they found her, abandoned and left for dead in a snowdrift while the couple were staying in Polaris. Two kids seemed a lot but neither were so heartless to leave the babe to die.
Nolan and Eden, especially early in their marriage, spent a LOT of time away from Wizard City, so considering Quinn was young enough and looked so similar to her alleged father, no one questioned it too hard. Not the normal way people have a family, but children were acquired anyway.
Eden is not a good parent. I will make that clear.
Quinn doesn't care, when she stops planning to make her escape she just focuses on working with her father's crew after Nolan allows her to drop out of the rebuilt Dragonspyre Academy. Quinn is abrasive and snappy, better with a sword than she ever was with a wand, even before the mana made her sick. Despite this, and with Greenstar reputation on the line, Quinn is talked about like a sickly little girl despite being a confident and competent young woman.
Cynthia is a darling, loves dressing up and being praised. Is Eden's perfect little doll for dinners and galas. Cynthia is a pretty competent diviner, and adores watching her dad work on various tech for the storm gates. After a particularly hard night where Cynthia had sat at the edge of Nolan's workbench crying about how Eden only smiles at her when people are watching, Cynthia gets permission to use Nolan's workshop for her own crafts and curiosities.
Sure, Nolan may have picked these girls up off the street. He may be an arrogant loud mouthed dickhead. But somehow, some way, Nolan Stormgate has two daughters who love him so so so much.
Watching a playthrough of the level 130 wizard city sewer dungeon and forgot about Nolan Stormgate's estranged cousin, Belgrim Sparklepants
Also included are Mycin Frosthammer (cousin of Garrick Goldenhawk) and Valerie Thunderfist (cousin of Susie Gryphonbane) and Vanessa Flametalon (cousin to Regina Flametalon)
The running gag with my interpretation of Pirate!Nolan Stormgate is he is very talented. He has a lot of unique skills he's developed and perfected from being raised on a pirate ship (athleticism, cooking, hand-to-hand fighting, mechanics, navigation, sailing). However, he does not want to be skilled in them. He wants to max out magic.
The problem is he struggles with magic. He was born into a different magic system. He was taught in a hands-on learning environment while wizards have a more traditional classroom setting. He was raised in a different morality system. Every part of that causes him to struggle, but he can't ask for help because he burnt bridges early due to massive cultural differences and the one adult in his life he thinks he can count on is a dickwad stuck in grief.
In summary, Nolan Stormgate was born to be a pirate, but he desperately wants to be a wizard.
The idea of Nolan Stormgate being a pirate, specifically a musketeer, is very funny to me. This boy has a shitty personality and is horrible at spellcasting, but he can use a glock.
Warning for divine punishment through scarring and altering Pirate101's bullshit take on Vodun
STUBBORNESS
The scarring was getting worse.
Nolan hissed from the intense heat that spread throughout his body. With every wrap and press of a bandage, he was flashed with pain. He was thankful for the pocket dimensions their dorms were in because he did not need anyone else to smell the burnt flesh that filled his chamber or hear his anguished sounds.
Nolan knew the cause of the figures.
It was a punishment.
It was a punishment from the Creator.
Nolan had been born with magic. He had not obtained it through studies like his classmates but was born with it. It was a gift. It was a gift from the Creator who expected him to act as one of her connections to the mortal plane through wild undefined magic.
He knew he would be punished for his deviance the moment he rejected her witchcraft. The crew’s witchdoctor had warned him, but Nolan had never believed in the practices. He knew the spirits existed, he had seen them, but he could never believe in them the way they wanted him to.
The way she wanted him to.
The figures burnt into his skin were a constant reminder.
The figures burnt into his skin were a constant warning.
The Creator was trying to force his hand, to get him to give up his education, to get him to come back to the skulls and statues, to get him to take up the path expected of him.
