The See Saw Dynamics in Real by Takehiko Inoue
Nomiya:
Nomiyas see saw deals with redemption and guilt. He has highs of redeeming himself by going pro in basketball, doing his best and proving himself but on the other end he suffers the guilt that he feels from the accident. While he can still run, jump and play, he caused Natsumi to become disabled. He is riddled with guilt and it is that guilt that creates the see saw.
Togawa:
Togawas see saw deals with perseverance and his disability. He has highs where he is improving due to his driven nature, where he is moving forward in basketball but he has lows where his disability causes so many different issues for him, from the scares of having his disease come back to his training, he has a constant see-saw between the two. His perseverance is the high and his disability contributes to the low. The two combined to create the up and down of the see saw.
Takahashi:
Takahashis see saw deals with his self image and his reality. He, before his accident, has a grandiose sense of self but now has to deal with the reality that he is not. His highs come from when he was not disabled and his lows are due to his disability. He can't play basketball, his true passions, he loses his friends from school, he is now someone he would look down upon. He is growing, but he still struggles with getting over himself and realizing the reality of his new life.
All three:
The three of them have ebb and flows.
Much like real life, they have mountain highs and valley lows. The three have see saw-ed to various extents, and it's brilliantly done when combined with each of their arcs. It's never a linear process.
They regress, they progress and sometimes it feel like one step forward and two steps back. But they keep going.
anyway, go read real!! thank you so much if you actually read this :-)
