maybe im stupid or something but i genuinely dont understand the INSISTENCE of some fans that jon be both a stark and a targaryen
im not denying that rhaegar was his biological father. itd sort of be dumb to at this point.
but i dont understand why people insist that makes him a targaryen. he has no connection to them, besides a biological link that died before he was born.
beyond that, he doesnt show any of the distinct targaryen traits or features, aFaIR. he HAS shown that he fits right in with the starks features and traits, and could probably be spotted as one from a mile away.
jons storyline is the most northern based storyline, and part of his identity storyline is the north accepting him as a stark, too, something hes always wanted, always struggled for. even when he was a part of the nights watch, there was a part of that still worked at becoming a stark in the eyes of others, always being the most honorable he could be, living by ned starks (jons true father, if not by blood then by presence) teachings long after he died
forgive me if i dont immediately jump on the “jon is a targaryen” train after finding his biological father is rhaegar. as far as im concerned it just makes him related to the targaryens, not a true targaryen. to insist hes suddenly added the identity of “targaryen” after just a few scenes feels cheap. i dont feel like jons status as a targaryen is earned, in a storytelling sense.
i know that doesnt exactly make a whole lot of sense on the surface, and to be fair this is sort of just a thing thats been bugging me ever since the r+l=j reveal, and tbh, i also havent slept in almost 36 hours rn.
all ill say as a closing line is this:
why should rhaegar get anywhere near as much credit for jons identity as ned does?
