Okay, we've already discussed trans people in real life. So how do you feel about cartoon characters being trans headcanons or anything else like queers? Dipper, Marco, Leo, Hiro, Jax, Gwen, Sonic, Lloyd, Sora, Miku, Fluttershy, Sasuke, Timmy, Danny phantom, Mulan or others
All these character complexes, their appearance, and how they dress differently for the sake of a mission or just as a joke, so now they're all trans? So there's not a single character who can't have problems, and before you can sympathize with them, you have to add them to the transgender category?
I personally don't understand this. There's also not a single straight character, and everyone is gay, lesbian, pan, genderfluid, or non-binary, but there's not single hetero character?
Personally, I find it strange and nonsensical that they are assigned a gender and orientation based on their clothing color.
If Gwen's costume is made up of blue, white, and pink, is she necessarily transgender? (Although she's being made up because of the flag on the wall that says "Protect trans kids.") Could Marinette also be transgender from this colors? And if the characters are made up of pink, yellow, and blue, are they pansexual? (Mabel, Pinkie Pie, Star or even Zoe from MLB, like Twilight Sparkle is bisexual because of colors: pink, purple, blue) The robots characters are simply made up of non-binary or androgynous individuals rather than transgender individuals. I've only noticed that Dipper and Stanford are the only ones who are non-binary or Zane & P.I.X.A.L
OOoh, this is a very interesting one, actually! (I'll be honest, I don't know like half of the characters referenced so correct me if I'm wrong)
I generally just don't like it. I think there's a reason that every character (actual character, not just a background/extra w/ nothing going for them) has the traits they do. The writers, for better or for worse, decided how they wanted to write a character before the plot was developed. I'm not going to say it's disrespectful (bc these are after all fictional characters) but it's definitely telling of a grander issue with insecurities, entitlement, and the like when a perfectly fine character is either preferred or forcibly 'transed' by the fandom just for the sake of transing them. What do we gain from transing Timmy Turner? He's now a girl pretending to be a boy while still crushing on a girl, having boy friends, and being a total asshole. Is that really a 'win' for trans rep? I would say fuck no but, then again, I think I largely look at things with more logic than they do.
And that's not even touching on characters where their sex matters. Mulan being trans is honestly just a fucking insult. Period. Turning her from a girl fighting sexism while doing the most selfless thing she can imagine (being willing to die for her ailing father) and saving all of China in the process is fucking butchered if she's actually just a dude pretending to be a girl pretending to be a dude. Like do we not see how genuinely fucking stupid that is?
And yes, it's absolutely RICH when the supposedly 'reject the gender binary' cult is the first to look at the color of someone's clothes, the length of their hair, their voice, etc and decide they must be trans, nonbinary (which is even more made-up than trans), or some other bullshit presentation. Like...that's the epitome of 'let the made up binary define you' to see a boy in pink and go 'so, actually, he's secretly a girl or secretly wants to be a girl.' It's fucking gross and weird and hypocritical as fuck, honestly.
Gwen being trans because of the colors of her suit would honestly be such a fuck you to, well, all of the story thus far but, sadly, I can't say I'd put it past the woke-guzzling writers at Marvel (or DC) to go that far. Only time will tell since we still haven't gotten the 3rd animated Spider Man movie after, what, 3+ years??
All of this to say, anyone can make any headcanons they want about any character. That is the nature of fiction. But I think a lot of these headcanons can still be criticized for being very telling for the people who see the most basic of gender non-conformation, or even less than that, and swear a character needs to be trans, nonbinary, a certain sexuality, etc. Like why do you think the boy in pink 'has to be' secretly a girl? Is it maybe bc you've guzzled so much Gender Cult Koolaid that you can't imagine any but a girl liking pink? Really?
