I think my favorite genre of fanart is Pokemon being used to represent being trans/gender-nonconforming/intersex, such as:
Evolution used as a metaphor for transitioning and becoming your true self
Or the reverse, evolving into a body that doesn't align with your identity but still surviving and thriving despite it
Pokemon with either obvious sexual dimorphism or being part of a gender-locked species still transitioning despite knowing they'll never pass as cis but doing what makes them happier anyway (just saw art of a Nidoqueen with top surgery scars that inspired me to make this post)
And even if they do pass the Pokemon transition in ways very different from normal human transition (ex. transfem Wooper getting a spike removed from her horns)
Pokemon typically seen as inherently masculine or feminine going against expectations with their gender presentation, or just existing as a gender different from what others expect (I think female Glalie and male Gardevoir should make out sloppy style)
Pokemon who's actual gender ratio go against what people typically expect from the Pokemon (shout out Mr. Mime, shout out Primarina, shoutout Simipour)
Intersex Pokemon being born with and showing off traits that go against or combine traits of their species' usual sexual dimorphism (also nonbinary Pokemon transitioning to combine traits of both gendered forms)
Pokemon of a gender-locked species being born as the opposite sex anyway because biology isn't perfectly binary and that's okay
Pokemon with "unknown" genders not fitting into our male/female binary but still being accepted and loved and sometimes even adopting a gender identity because it aligns more with who they are (and shout out to many of those "unknown" gender Pokemon being godlike Legendaries)
Just art of trans/gender-nonconforming/intersex Pokemon in general that don't fit into any of these tropes
Pokemon is a series that celebrates building a diverse team that stronger together than apart, celebrates playing with gender with both their human characters and the Pokemon themselves, celebrates building friendships with those who live completely different lives than we do, celebrates going on a journey and evolving into new identities. Makes sense why so many of us gravitate towards this series.
