Yes, it’s something that exists. Chimera children from wealthy families can undergo surgeries to appear more “human,” but of course that also comes with its own disadvantages, such as desensitization or even the direct loss of a body part. There are specialized institutions, many of them underground, that perform these kinds of procedures at a lower cost, though they are still expensive operations.

There are many adult chimeras who willingly decide to undergo these kinds of mutilations in order to experience less exclusion or mistreatment from society, and there are others who are subjected to these surgeries from a young age directly by their parents without their consent.

I have a draft of an unpublished extra chapter that touches a bit on this topic, and I also plan to mention it more in future seasons of Chimeras (when I’m able to write them).
