More Newsies hc: Davey broke his ankle by tripping over a rope

Of course he did. Crutchie helped him learn to walk with a crutch for a while. Davey was embarrassed to tell anyone how he broke his ankle, so Jack made up a story for him and would tell anyone that asked that the Delancey brothers tried to pick a fight with him. (Jack made sure to throw in how he ‘saved Davey’ every time he told someone.)

This was also Jack’s fault

They went camping for a weekend and he really wanted to climb a tree to get a great view and he convinced Davey to climb up with him

In his defence, Davey did get all of the way up and most of the way down but then he miscalculated where a branch was and tumbled a couple of metres to the ground

Jack scrambles down and tries to help but Davey is just clutching his shoulder and giving him a ‘why is it only and always when I’m with you’ look

Jack offers to carry him back to the car but Davey determinedly walks by himself. 

They don’t know exactly what’s wrong but Davey just knows it doesn’t feel good, and Jack creates a makeshift sling out of his coat to keep his arm in place where it doesn’t hurt so much

With his good arm freed from having to hold the other one, Davey grabs Jack’s hand and won’t let go because they’re in the middle of no where, his shoulder hurts like hell and it wasn’t exactly Jack’s fault that he’d fallen.
