1. Hi!! Many of the chubby!dean fics/art show dean as having a (often perfectly) round tummy--this is more likely to be visceral chub, which is firmer (sometimes hard) & holds its shape because of its distribution relative to the abd muscles.
2. But when I look at Jensen he looks SOFT, like he’s more inclined to gain subcutaneous chub, which lies on top of the abd muscles and is thus softer and takes its own shape.
3. Based on your extensive analysis of Jensen’s body, do you think additional chub would be distributed subcutaneously or viscerally? Otherwised phrased as, would he be more likely to get a round, hard tum or a rolly, soft tum? Thanks bye.
wow you just taught me something i definitely did not know before. if i’m just answering this question with how jensen’s physical appearance is, i would definitely say he’s carrying more subcutaneous fat than visceral fat. it’s strange, though, because subcutaneous fat is more likely to appear in the thighs and ass than in the abdomen, but jensen has almost no fat at all in his ass and not much in his thighs:
but if u look at his stomach it definitely looks more squishy than it does firm, which means that he has a layer of fat covering his stomach muscles (subcutaneous) instead of in his stomach muscles (visceral).
this is likely why people always comment on how “solid” jensen feels—underneath a soft layer of fatty skin he’s got a frightening amount of muscle:
if he had MORE subcutaneous fat, he would definitely feel a lot squishier than solid, but alas, he has a minimal amount of it. that being said, however, i don’t think the fat in jensen’s stomach is visceral for several reasons.
one, i agree with you that he would not gain weight like a beer gut where it’s just really firm, round fat. the fact that he can FAKE it demonstrates that this isn’t how he would actually look if he gained a lot of weight:
more likely, if jensen gained a bunch of weight, it would all be soft and flabby. his stomach would probably hang low instead of stick out.
two, subcutaneous fat is actually a much healthier type of fat than visceral is. while everyone has at least a little visceral fat, it tends to be gained when you live a sedentary lifestyle. i would say with jensen’s job and as much as he talks about exercise, he definitely doesn’t have a whole lot of visceral fat. tbh i don’t think he could do this if that tum of his was visceral:
subcutaneous fat, though, is used to store energy during periods of high activity. when there’s only a small amount of it (which, as i mentioned earlier, jensen only has a small amount of it), it tends to sit loosely under the skin and is not always visible:
like, u can tell the tum is simultaneously soft and strong, and that the little bit of pudge around his belly button could most likely be pulled out and away from his stomach as if it’s just loose skin.
three, it’s jiggly and moves independent of his muscles:
and four, it sits away from his body when he sits down instead of just remaining in place:
so, in conclusion, if u want to write/draw dean/jensen with extra weight on his frame, making that weight soft and flabby would be more accurate than giving him a beer gut. unless, of course, in your fic dean gains weight by drinking beer and being sedentary. this has been a psa.
