This was such a messy, insightful look into Sydney’s party scene in the late 80s from the perspective of a closeted gay teen. Part memoir and part fiction, this book was compulsively readable.

Skins, but make it Australian.

I am so genuinely glad this was not my teenage experience. Me and my friends just stayed up all night talking shit, watching movies and eating junk food. Not going clubbing and taking drugs just to feel something.

I felt genuinely sad for the kids between these pages, even while they thought they were having fun.

Pairing this story with the man I met when I met the author at Book Fair Aus is kind of wild. I would never have picked this kind of past for him. I’m glad he came through it, and am genuinely glad to have met him!
