"Forbidden World of Light" by Northless - From "A Path Beyond Grief" (2022)
Apart from their split with Primitive Man, Northless also released an EP in 2016. This has more of the melodic yet still heavy and complex sludge they’re known for. I like this a bit more than the split, there’s more room for the songs to expand themselves, and this gives birth to the over 10 minute epic, Conduit. Recommended. Highlight: Conduit FFO: *looks at what i wrote at the Primitive Man split: Oh yeah, SLUDGE
Split between two prominent and great sludge acts. I’ve been following Ethan’s bands since CTTOAFF, and no matter how overhyped Primitive Man is, it’s sound alone is still capable of demolishing skyscrapers. Here we have a 15 minute track that absolutely kills. It has everything you’d expect from a PM track. On the flipside we have Northless, who are in the business for a realy long time, and somehow always remained in an underground level. Their music is more complex and caustic (get it?), and although i liked PM’s side more, as it is more crushing, if you’re more into witty riffs, you’ll like this as well. FFO: SLUDGE

Then you’ll hear my interview with Erik Stenglein of the death metal band Syrictus (Facebook). There’s a lot of good content to enjoy down smash that…
