Impulse ticket-buying has really been a thing this week. But I'm now going to see Festival of the Spoken Nerd, Richard Herring (Norwich Playhouse), and Stewart Lee perform John Cage's 'Indeterminacy' (Norwich Arts Centre). Add that to the handful of comedy gigs I booked in advance last semester (and the fact at UEA Headlights we have our own sketch showcase with a still-to-be-announced headliner coming up HINT) and 2014's going to be brilliant. Got to love Norwich and it's reasonably-priced comedy/music scene.

In addition to Mike Liggins outlining the rules of The Fig Game, we also viewed 'Merry Quizmas' videos from the likes of Late Night Gimp Fight, Pappy's Fun Club, Paul F Taylor, and Juliet Meyers!
A massive thank you to everyone who came along with this, and of course to everyone who performed and helped out last Thursday for our 'Night of Comedy' in The Hive!
The night featured performances from our 'New Blood' and 'Half Beam' sketch troupes, some stand-up sets from new Headlights members, and several rounds of improv from the Headlights Players - based off of some fabulous suggestions from the audience.
It seems a good time was had by all, but most importantly we managed to raise over £260 for Stop the Traffik.
Keep an eye out for photos, and possibly even video material, from the event and for news of other upcoming shows. We've definitely got plans for a few more in the near future, so watch this space!
SCREENING SOCIAL Friday 8th, Congregation Hall 01.20
Straight after the weekly meeting (which starts at 7pm, same room), we’ll be holding a comedy screening social. All members/want-to-be members are welcome; we hope this will be a good way to expose people to a range of classic comedy as well as being a very social night.
On our Facebook group, we’ve been taking recommendations of what to show. So far, requests have included Brass Eye, I’m Alan Partridge, Blackadder Goes Forth and Dad’s Army. It’s likely that an episode from each of this lot will get a showing at some point, alongside a load of individual sketches from YouTube. If you have any more suggestions of what you’d like to see, drop us a message here, on the Facebook group, or on any other of our contact addresses!
So, feel free to bring drinks (alcoholic or not), DVDs, snacks, food, and if you wanted some money because we’re thinking of ordering takeaway too! It’s going to be a fun night…
To open up our sketch writers’ meetings, we usually play a couple of rounds of a game called ‘consequences’. You write a character/famous person at the top of your paper, fold the paper, and then pass it on to the next person in the circle. You repeat this with a few more elements (more characters, location, dialogue, conclusion) and then everyone unfolds a sheet and reads out the story. They can range from the impossibly surreal to the eerily plausible, but here are a couple from this evening:
One day, a lollipop man and Penn & Teller met up at the London Eye. “Hey, didn’t I see you working at the hug factory?”, the lollipop man asked Penn & Teller. “Stop throwing pencils at me!" they screamed in reply. And then upon realising they were merely fictional characters from a game of ‘consequences’ their reality imploded and they ceased to exist.
Sherlock and Winston Churchill decided to meet up in the catacombs beneath Paris. “Just put the revolver down. And then sit on me. SIT ON ME!” demanded Sherlock. “Shut up you incompetent fool!, yelled Churchill. This situation was of course resolved by bears. Lots of bears! Bears everywhere!!
